i have a 20" in 44 mag. love it. trigger/action was a little heavy until 30-40 rounds then smoothed up
I’ve had two in 44 magnum, a 16” and a 20”. Both blued though, stainless is a bit garish for me.
More meplat, more better.
Hey,
I am a Marlin man--I've got three original JMs in 357, 44 and 45-70. The only problem is they are still in storage in the UK.....
So, to assuage my lever cravings about 6 months ago I picked up a used 44 16in Rossi for $600 off TM. The intention was to play about with it until I get my Marlins, BUT I love this little thing!
I don't know if the previous owner(s) played with the trigger but it is slick and as light as hell (yes, my trigger pull gauge is also in storage )
It also has a lovely Marbles 'bullseye' sight set on it.
I'm not selling this gun despite my plans at the outset now!
So, if you can find one like mine, I'd recommend it. It's one of the 'newer' Taurus made models with a few of the bolt group bits blued rather than stainless like the bulk of the gun.
Mine is a late 80's early 90's model 357 16". Awesome little jobbie.
Bought a trigger spring kit from a dude on OZ couple of months ago. It was already worn in so to speak but geez didn't they lighten everything up. Well worth it.
If it was a 44 it would be perfect.
Don't know if I like the ones with the safety on the top. Bit naff to me.
The later ones have safety on the bolt, and it's a bit naff. Would recommend an earlier one without. My 44's trigger was quite nice too, and cycled 100% reliably. Accuracy was as good as me. I wanted to lop a 20" off to 16.75" and suppress it, but needed something else in a hurry, so that got moved on. Will be getting another as soon as funds allow though, in both 357 and 44 mag
Identify your target beyond all doubt
just dont use the top safety and put it on 1/2 cock
Cheers lads.
Calibres are new to me also both much the same power wise ?
Can see theyre 100 max rounds
Yea 357 and 44 @Tommy
Identify your target beyond all doubt
There's a hell of a spread between the two. A light load in the 357/38 could be a 100gr projectile doing 1200 fps, vs a heavy in the 44sp/mag could be a 340gr doing 1500 fps. That's like comparing a funny stunted dolphin to a killer whale

Mine's got the safety on the top, I don't think I noticed it for ages when I first got it! Only one time after cleaning first shit at the range failed to fire - I'd move tae safety whilst cleaning. I never use it.
If you got a model with one and it bothered you that much there's videos on YouTube on how to remove it and fill the hole with a 25ACP case
I’d definitely recommend a pre-safety one as Tommy said. If you do get one with a safety though, Steve’s guns in the US make a bung that replaces the safety, or a rear sight that goes in it, although you’ll have to use an intermediary to get them to NZ.
Physeptone, I reckon the reason you love the Rossi after only having Marlins is because it’s a Winchester copy!
More meplat, more better.
