Ruger 10-22 Just Keeps Going

Greetings All,
I headed to the Range yesterday to do a bit of shooting on the Running Boar range at Taupo. Being somewhat disorganised I just grabbed my little Ruger. I had been using one of those cable padlock thingies and while getting ready to shoot I felt something fall into my hand. It was the extractor. Bugger. The cable must have dislodged it. I put the rifle back in the bag for sorting out later having visions of needing a new spring. This morning I pulled it out and all the bits were there. The spring and follower were a little gummed up which likely helped keep them in place. Everything is back together now ready for test firing.
Thinking about the rifle I seemed to have had it a very long time so I checked the serial number and it was manufactured in 1979. I bought it new for $99.00 paying $15.00 extra for the Deluxe Sporter Model. It has had a lot of use from shooting rabbits, hares and the odd goat plus shooting Running Boar on the now lost Hastings range. A friend and I also ran school kid shooting even for the younger kids both using Ruger semi auto .22 rifles. The kids shot sitting in our shooting hut with the rifles on a rest. We loaded the mags and loaded the chamber once they were settled so all they had to do was pull the trigger. A brick did not last long and each rifle must have digested thousands of rounds. I can't remember a single malfunction that was not operator error.
My son claimed the rifle for a bit and it came back with a suppressor and a trigger upgrade. The scope is an old Tasco 2-7 and I have been looking in the cupboard thinking about what I might replace it with but it is going to be with me for a while yet. Why replace something that is not broken?

I have my father's 10/22 that he purchased in the 80's. Don't know how many thousands of rounds have been through it. Only time it malfunctions is if it hasn't been cleaned for a while. Seems to gum up in the chamber. Absolutely bog standard other than polishing the trigger group.I used it recently at one of the local S.P.A.R.C matches,where the little ruger did pretty well for itself.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...160d042176.jpg
