Thread: Ruger 10/22 - Scope/sight options

I've purchased a new 10/22 with hogue stock, with full Barrel Silencer.

I was going to put an old night eater on it, but its far too big. I am wanting something compact.

What setups to you guys/girls have? Pro's & Cons?

Wanting to shooting anywhere out to 80m or so. I like the look of the Leupold FX-II Ultralight 2.5x20mm but not the price. Would consider red dots, but wouldn't know where to start?

Any help would be much appreciated.

20mm is very small tube by modern standards, amd IMO would look "off".
Also with the standard stocks and actions and their shit screw-on pic rail: I'll have both scope rings forward of the turrets to get head possie/eye relief for offhand shooting, and a skinny tube is more likely to not like that.

Any 1" tube x32 scope you can find will be fine. 1-7 or 3-9. even fixed 4x

Red dots are a matter of preference and situation (night shooting? dawn/dusk? what targets? snow or forest?), plenty of threads here on them.

Looked up your Leupold, bit small for what I'm after. Thanks anyway.

A chassis with adjustable stock fixes length of pull issues with factory stocks.
I’m running a Loopie 4.5-14x40 on mine.
Probably a little too much magnification. A 3.5-10 would be perfect.
Mine shoots 1” at 100m no problems if the wind is light.

I have 3.

Number One runs a super light aluminium sleeved barrel and Hogue stock. This is my hunting gun. It has a light weight 3-9x40, i actually want to change it, but the rings have been over tightened to the dovetail rail and the allen screw's head is slightly bent out of shape, which means I cannot undo the screw. until I figure it out I am stuck with this scope. 9x power is not enough for me when shooting standing and aiming for possum's head at 40m+.

Number Two runs full KIDD with heavy barrel. it is my hunting + target shooting gun. It has a 2-16x44. I really like this scope. Very clear at both end (although some distortion at 2x), heaps of room for dial, awesome zoom range and focus from 10m - infinity.

Number Three runs full KIDD with a heavy barrel, it is not threaded so I dont use it for hunting, just target shooting. It has a 5-20x50. I leave it on 20x power most of the time. It can focus from 10m to infinity.

Personally, I need the scope to be able to focus at 25m if it is used on a 10/22.

Yep, well worth spending the extra for models with a free float barrel and not the band.

I run a 10/22 in a Houge stock, scope is a Burris 3-9 x 40 rimfire. It has a ballistic recticle that is set up for the 22lr. Once you have it sussed you can shoot a long way out with it.
Clear enough and still going strong after 4 years of Central Otago rabbit shooting.
Rifle is stock with a couple of little tweaks from Gundoc. Group is 6 mm at 50 mtrs shot pretty causally over a pack. All you need as a accurate workhorse rifle without spending a fortune.

Yep, exactly this setup x 2. Works well.

Got a Bushnell for a $100

Put a 2MOA Aimpoint on mine to deal with pests bailed by the dog. Works a treat. So well in fact that I have left it on for all work. Shooting rabbits quite comfortably and consistently out to 70m. Trick is to adjust the dot brightness to allow for more precise shooting. Often think about putting a 3-9 back on then look at what I can do with dot and dog and then go.....nah....

Just brought a vixen 3x12x42,dials perfect,weighs only 12.5 ozs.Nice wee scope from reloaders.

I got mine for $1199.

I recall my build was going to be:
$600 for new 10/22
$600 for Kidd tensioned barrel
$650 for Kidd trigger

Darin at USAGUNS used to sell full KIDD with Hogue stock for about 2k. i dont know if he still does that but with Ruger factory rifle price going up so much, those full KIDD prices look pretty good.

I see 55six have brownell receivers in stock that have the rear screw.

Ooops scratch that, just standard receivers!! Didn't really look properly.
