Ruger American Mag Mod
Late last year I acquired a Ruger American in .223 as a work rifle.
It has worked out surprisingly well with standard ammo but due to a bad influence in this forum (https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....23-deer-64884/) I've been wanting to try some heavier projectiles which has led a wee issue.
And wee is the word, despite the American being a full length action the .223 mag is designed only for the standard length load.
But with the power of google and the natural habit of rifle owners to tinker, a solution was found on a different forum - https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...ics/10354692/2
So this morning was set aside to see if I could extend the useable mag length without destroying it -
Standard round in the mag vs dummy round I plan to load

The mag split in two easily

You need to fill all of these slots in the back of the mag epoxy putty then let it set

I got a little preoccupied with the Dremel and forgot to take a pic of routing out the inside but the result is the mag will now take up to a 2.4" LOA load.
The spare mag gets done tomorrow.
