I can't agree with you about the magazines at least in 223. The pmags are superb unless you want to load long.

Mine was $820 new, and yes threaded but blued not coated. Trigger is fine for a hunting trigger. Does not compare to my mates $3k Sako 223 but would not take that hunting.
A big consideration for me at the time was the 10rd mag capacity, AR15 Mag compatibility and excellent $85 aftermarket steel mags. Horses for courses...
Say what you like about the finish quality (and I'd probably agree) but they've got the important things right. With My gen 1, I fitted it with a new scope, measured clicks to ensure it was in the middle of the adjustment range and put it on. Bore sight looked good, first shot at 50m straight through the centre of a half inch bull followed by another 2. How often does that happen?.
Re: Price. If you bought a rifle for $800-900 and it shoots straight, then you've done well. Standard price for the Gen I seems to be about $1300 now.
Nah it's a bit like Briscoes, never pay RRP - wait for the sale. GC were flogging them for $999 last month.
