Thread: Ruger Marlins

Some updates from Ruger.

MAYODAN, NC., Oct. 06, 2021.
Christopher J. Killoy, Ruger CEO, said the first Marlin rifle to be delivered in December 2021 from their Mayodan, NC plant will be the Marlin model 1895SBL in 45-70.

Killroy indicated that the company will release this model first and will be followed up by some 336 models and the popular model 444 as well. These centerfire rifles will then be followed up by some model 1894's in 357 and 44 magnum.

He also indicated that the Marlin famous Microgroove and Ballard rifling have been replaced with their method of rifling and that initial results are offering extremely good accuracy that they are use to producing from their other centerfire rifles in the Ruger line.

The model choice for first release is a proven best seller from past Marlin releases and is anticipated to sell very well.

The company emphasized that although initial availability will be light they expect to ramp up quickly.

That is good news. Always had a soft spot for a 336 but have never taken the plunge. Perhaps next year. Ruger will put their mark on the rifle which should be a good thing after the uncertainty of recent years.

The only irony I see in Ruger making Marlin Lever guns is that they already made a very nice lever gun in the model 96 that is no longer made and still highly regarded...

Yeah Tim. Reckon a 44 mag would be nice.
A 336 in 444 marlin would be handy too

I look forward to getting one in the future - would love something like the 1895 dark series

I sort of like the black series in principle but an old school 70s 3030 or 444 would be more better

Further update for this - the first Ruger made Marlins are shipping in the US with a few upgrades - 1895 - 45/70, 19" SBL, 6+1 mag, stainless, big loop
- new sights + pic rail
- nickle plated, spiral fluted bolt
- factory threaded barrel + cap
- revised ergonomics on stock and improved checkering

Suggested US retail $1399USD ($2045nz plus what ever gets tacked on to bring them here)

well i hope the RRP of the ruglin is indicative of a step up in quality......... close to twice the price of a remlin ......

The SBL were always more pricey, I think last time they were available in NZ they were about $2300...so they will be over 3k here now probably.

As a remlin 1895 owner from the later produced batches I can say I have been most impressed with the quality of mine . The first earlier runs were apparently very dodgy with front sights mounted at 1 oclock on the barrel etc .
But both our 45 and 357 sbl's are fine rifles .
As is our original marlin 30/30 xlr .
I refuse to watch the video though simply because I would want the new one for the extra features such as threading .....
