Running SA cartridge in a LA

With the 270 Savage I'm buying I have some options to consider.

My current rifle is a SA, bedded into laminate stock (hinged floor plate), with 2 barrels. Both 7-08, a Shillen 22 inch match barrel with T2 that I use for gongs, and the factory barrel cut down to 14 inch with DPT modular can for hunting.

The 270 plastic stock (blind mag) should be lighter than the laminate, and I would not mind it getting scratched etc in normal hunting abuse. So what issues would I be looking at if I screw the 708 barrel into the long action ? Similar case base size for 708 and 270, so magazine lips should be fine, and I'm head spacing the barrel with GO/NOGO gauges, so no issues in terms of the bolt...

correct me if Im wrong but isnt that what you get with a Tikka anyway???? and wasnt it "the norm" back in 60s n 70s before mid length actions became widespread so the likes of german 8mm mauser would get converted to say a .308 by BSA,midland and the like...dare I suggest it??? MAKE SURE NOT TO FIRE and try feeding/chambering a couple of 7mm/08s through the poohseventy now MAKING SURE YOU DONT FIRE.
that will answer your will it feed ok question....the controlled feed should pick up case and hold it so it can eject ok.... but what oraki says is spot on...WHY WOULD YOU???? unless just to get short rifle to carry.... thread poohseventy barrel and share same can,the extra length of barrel isnt really that much of an issue....and it will save a fortune on lattes when you go hunting, you can have regular instant or even a cuppa tea!!!

I'm considering keeping the standard length 270 barrel for the south, and the shorty 7-08 barrel for the north. Very little in it if you compare 150gr in 270 to 162 ELD in 7-08.

Just curious what the practical issues are I'm going to encounter using SA round in a LA...

Can always turn one of my old target 308 barrels into a 300 Norma at a later stage.

I would say you'll be the envy of every guy that ever tried to seat his short action rounds waaaaay out there to touch the lands, and still feed from the mag

I had a 22/250 barrel that I used on a model 10 and the ejection was poor to crap. The casehead was off the ejector by the time it cleared the chamber.

I have run the maths on this and have come up with the following:

Long action + 270 = most manliest and best caliber ever invented, plus you will have the luxury of being able to use the spare 708 barrel to fend off all the thirsty women that will materialise as a result of your 270 ownership

    Long action + 708 = shit (because it's a 708/not a 270)

I think the results of my calculations speak for themselves
Bagheera, BRADS and dannyb like this.
    270 is a harmonic divisor number[1]
270 is the fourth number that is divisible by its average integer divisor[2]
270 is a practical number, by the second definition
The sum of the coprime counts for the first 29 integers is 270
270 is a sparsely totient number, the largest integer with 72 as its totient
Given 6 elements, there are 270 square permutations[3]
    10! has 270 divisors
270 is the smallest positive integer that has divisors ending by digits 1, 2, …, 9.

Well Ryan, I've decided to keep the manly 270 barrel, so call it half a win for your side.

We will have to discuss further at Toby's so you can try to convert me fully to the 270 cult

There are expenses in taking on a new calibre: dies, brass, load development, stocking different powder and projectiles, sometimes suppressor thread or bushing.
