Sako 308 Gamehead 150gr Soft Point projectile

Really interesting to discover the projectile still lodged in a fallow doe that I shot at 25-metres in the point of the shoulder as it quartered side-on towards me. I recovered the projectile in the flank. I'm really surprised that a 308 150-gr didn't exit! It was nicely mushroomed though.

I have run some 165gr Sako through the .308 and proved very accurate. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to test them on deer yet.

I have had great results with 165gr Partition handload on medium and heaby antwlope previously.

well it sure as heck left all its energy in the animal.....cant ask for better expansion than that.
25 yards is a hard one for projectile choice.....if its a super softy designed for ultra long range it COULD blow up but as many on here will attest to,animal should still fall over, shot through ribs only into lungs it should fall over very quickly and be messy.
flip that and use a hard projectile to get full penertration up close and it may fail to expand enough and definately will do so at any range when velocity drops.
PERSONALLY I think that projectile did a very good job.Ive recovered 180grn rn hornadies from animals at same range and they didnt go anywhere either.
shot placement is rather important...people tend to forget this simple fact.
    enjoy your venison.
