    Sako 85 threading question...

Im looking at purchasing a Sako 85, im looking at the finnlight as I like the idea of an all weather rifle. Im going to stick with 270 win and was wondering if I will run into trouble cutting the barrel to 20" and threading for a suppresor? I have heard that the factory fluting can affect cutting and threading these rifles?

I cut into the fluting and thread quite often. Done many fluted tikkas and sakos downs to 16" or 15", no issues.

I want to chop 2 inches off the barrel so it will end up into the flutes

Thanks for that Friwi, how does the rear bushing setup work if using an overbarrel?

Simple, rear bush hole is opened to the outside diameter of your barrel where it contacts at the rear.

If your going to hack the barrel up why don't you just get a Synthetic Stainless? $200-300 cheaper than the Finnlight too.
crewe2, BRADS and Mathias like this.

yep that would be the go, and if you want to sexy it up you can get that barrell flutted at a later date, shouldn't cost as much as only half a barrell

Unfortunately, fluting a short barrel or a long barrel take almost as long and is charged therefore the same.

Yes, seems like I was wrong and the factory length is actually 24", will definately be bringing it back to at least 22" though
