handle as many as you can, owners will tell about the strong points of their chosen rifle and experienced honest ones will tell you of any downfalls as well.

Excellent point VC. I'd make a little function test list and go through that on each rifle.

Bolt removal
Safety catch operation (3 position or anything else weird or not to your taste)
Loading magazine
Removing magazine
Any strange "sticky out" bits if it is on a sling
