    Sako carbonlite

I brought a 7mm mag in carbonlite today. I’ve got about 800 162 gn amaxes left so it should see me out. I’ve put a VX5 HD 3x 15 on it with sako rings. Lightweight carbon bipod I’m good to go. Will come in well under 4 kg

Has anyone else got one yet ? Thoughts ?

Sounds good. I have the same setup with a T3/carbon stock. I will be interested to hear an exact weight (ready to go).

Have one in rem mag (a few years now) everything that a Finnlight is and lighter

    They all like Norma/Nosler brass

    Fed 215 primer

72g Of ADI 2217 powder (least temp sensitive)

    And a 162 g amax at a ZCL of 2.660 inches for 3050-3080 FPS

    They have seriously consistent chambers

Your Nosler/Norma brass will end up with a.......

    Sized neck of 303.5 inches
    Loaded neck of 308.5 inches
    Fired neck of 315.5 inches

That’s 3.5 thou neck clearance a side which is fine with a 5 thou jump to the rifling lands

They often shoot .3 to .5 MOA with those neck clearances in this ammo combo

Dead deer out as far as you can see them

Thats exactly the same recipie I have for my wood stainless 85 in the same calibre . Except I use winchester brass . Should pick it up Thursday and will shoot it through a chrony at 200 yds on the weekend. Then will get out and amax stuff the following weekend.

How's the soft touch coating holding up?

Does it wear off like on the finnlights?

Any issues with ejecting a fired case? A friend had one in winmag which wouldnt eject properly but I am interested to hear about the rem mag as I would like one!

I’m betting they have issues. I’ve got two 85’s - one WSM and a 270 and they both do it. You can’t run low rings and they work best with a quick cycle of the bolt that works 80-90% of the time and a scope with a low profile windage turret. Running the ejector at 6 o’clock was a huge design flaw from Sako imo. Yet I still have two so I’m obviously prepared to put up with it. Retrofitting a plunger ejector in the bolt face would likely cure the problem, but I haven’t heard of anyone offering that fix.

Interesting. I’ve got a couple of short action 85s, one of which I‘ve owned for 12 years, and I’ve never had a problem. They eject reliably regardless of how quick the bolt is cycled

They are beautiful things alright, but over 3 x the cost of a T3 with the same barrel and weight in magnum chambering. Sorry, I just don’t get it.

For about the same money you could have a custom action, Bartlein cut rifled barrel, carbon stock and Jewell trigger plus smithing to screw it all together. For half the money you could buy a new T3 and stick it in a carbon stock like Shearer did.

Same here. The ejection problem is confined to the longer actions and not all of them do it. There is a YouTube video of a guy who claims a fix for the issue.

WSM’s in general are average for feeding, that’s not a problem exclusive to Sako.

And why anyone would own a .270 is beyond me anyway 😜

    Fantastic info.
I run one with ADG brass, a touch less powder and using a Andy&bix trigger (very nice)
But struggling with accuracy so I’m going back to the drawing board to check I’ve not stuffed something up before I commit to a bedding job.

I get 2960 with my 22.5in barrel. Using 70.5gr. Can do .3-.5 MOA and shit deer out to 700+ yards but not today.
