Sure its a real Sako, it's not a Sako85 model, but its a Sako branded rifle, built by Sako, in the Sako factory.
A7 = Sako value line, not Tikka premium line.

Maybe go up in status and get a Sako 85 in 223 bro. If the 223 is something you will continue to use then get a sweet one.

Just my opinion @ChrisW but an A7 is a tarted up Tikka.

Sako 85 = Beretta 'Sako' with cheaper materials to save a buck

Sako 75 = Real Sako

Aahhh correction there fella Weatherby / Howa is a Sako L571 (A2 copy) not A1
Sako A7 shares a few Sako 75 features as well as Tikka.

Danny, the smallest action A7 is the medium length and has a bolt face to suit the 308 based cartidges, hence 22-250 and up fit it. They probably don't make a 223 on the A7 because they have their bases covered with the Tikka in the mid range price bracket and Sako 85 XS action for the higher price bracket.
As Ryan mentioned you can't rebarrel a 22-250 to 223 as the 223 has a smaller diameter base of the case. You can't put metal back on to a bolt face to make it smaller to suit that case.

Tarted up Tikka, or dressed down Sako - take your pick I guess.
The A7 action shares more in common with the Sako85 than the Tikka though, being a 3-lug bolt design and open topped receiver. Plus it says Sako on the side of it .

I must disagree re the cheaper materials on the 85..the walnut used it still walnut, the mags, trigger guard etc are all still steel. The carbon is carbon etc.
I get that some people prefer the 75 and that's cool, they are all great rifles imo.

I’d skip the sako 85 .223. Had 2 myself both had the ejection issues. If you did want a sako look out for the older models 75 AI L461 etc

Probably the best bit of advice.
Very few manufacturers nowadays make a short action specifically for .222 / .223., What you tend to find is a medium action eg 308 / 243 which also chambers for .223 with a corresponding medium length bolt and magazine. (economies of scale)
I recently found a mint Sako .222 on TM which was the very old 1960's model L461. Wasn't cheap but imo old Sako quality is unbeatable and can easily be rechambered to .223 if thats the cal.you're looking for.

Indeed , i was always thrown off by a wooden stock but they are pretty lusty.
