Savage Lightweight Hunter
-
Yes. I have one in .223.
Can't fault it for value. Accurate, light and safe. Shoots .5moa with 55 grn Barnes and 69 grn Targex.
You are welcome to have a lend to try it if you want.

Didn't Tahr have one of these at some stage.

My brother has one, in .223 also. Really nice wee rifle, can't really fault it.
I heard just yesterday a rumour that they were developing a syn/ss version specifically for the NZ market.. would make me very happy if true.
Does have a skinny wee barrel, so not really suitable for high-volume shooting
-
p.s. I got mine from Giles in Taihape and he did a great deal. About 3 years ago.
Its one of the few rifles I will always hang onto. It can go to the Grandkids.
-
So .223, do they do other calibre's?

All the usual cals, plus a few less so.

According to savage the lightweight hunter is available in -
223 REM
243 WIN
260 REM
270 WIN
30-06 SPFLD
308 WIN
6.5 CREEDMOOR
7MM-08 REM
Although availability of some may be an issue in NZ..
-
260 Rem in such a lightweight would be a cool rifle.

Is the length of pull on these rifles standard? Around the 13.5" or so? Does anyone know?

It's on the Savage web site.
I'm 5'10" and it fits me fine. I far prefer shorter to too long, which catch as you bring them to your shoulder.
-
Thanks Tahr, I can see the overall length of the rifle, but I can't see the length of pull.
-
I've fired a few shots thru one, found stock a bit short for my liking. Sweet little rifle though, doesn't look cheap and nasty, grouped very well.
-
Just pulled my brother's lightweight out of the safe to measure up for you. LOP is 345mm (13.5") approx, same as my 700 SPS and Savage Weather Warrior. Fore-end of the stock is 30-40mm shorter than the SPS
-
Good on you Striker, thanks for that.
-
Here's a blast from the past.
Can anyone give a hands on report of the stainless version of the Savage Lightweight?

I'm told the latest NZ Guns and Hunting mag has a test-fire of a 7-08 model. Haven't read it myself. How much weight you'd give a magazine review is up to you..

Thanks. Nick at NZ Guns is usually pretty good with his tests.
Someone on here must have one though. Its that first hand experience I'm looking for.

Great. What does it shoot like, and your general impressions? Have you got a suppressor on it?
-
Whats the synthetic stock like?

Hi Thar handloading 155 tmks 46gns 06h havnt chronyed them should be about 2750ish and shoots 3/4 3 shot @100 from bipod more than happy with that ,being lite is a bit lively shooting prone but dont notice it when hunting, plastic stock is adequate good recoil pad has a bit of flex if you twist it firmly but you are not going to be doing that hunting, bloody excellent trigger clean and crisp was a bit heavy for me cut 2 coils off spring now light as i like it mag basic plastic metal but works ok feeds good most of all good to carry round just on 7lb in hunting mode no suppressor not going there not that i dont like them just want to keep it light as i can dont mind a loud bang as if i get to shoot 1 shot in anger per hunt i am doing ok hope this helps Cheers Huk
