So I am hoping that by the new year I will be able to finally get a reasonable long range target scope. What target scope options are there available in NZ besides Sightron S3? 6~24 would seem the minimum zoom, oh and who sell them?

"I do not wish to be a pawn or canon fodder on the whims of MY Government"
Zoom isnt that important 3-18 is great too unless your shooting over 1k.
Great glass is more important.
There is the new nightforce scops
Z5 swarvo
Vx6
Vortex scopes
Plenty to choose from in that price range aslong with the s3
Konus binoculars " The power to imagine"
Thanks but,
I am using the club S3 6~24 (@ $1500NZD) Im sure I dont want to go less. In terms of good glass I am not shooting in poor light and I find I'm running the x24 most of the time but its a balancing act I agree. The NF and VX6 prices I have seen so far are all 2.5k and more, just not in my price range.
Vortex, yes.
Bushnell, but only Guncity have any?
Z5 I have no prices on, but I want target turrets.
google is not being my friend, LOL, for NZ, guess I'm going to have to import.

sounds like you already have a scope you like??
Swaro for Z5 etc and the higher magnification will be all up over $2500.00 start price not many will have prices but can get them. Based on your price limit they will be out.

It is bloody hard to go past the Sightron S3. It is a good scope at a very good price. I have the S3 SS, 6-24x50 Mil Dot which I use out to 1000 metres with my .30-06 and I am delighted with it. You get about 98-99% of the optical performance of the $5K S&B's etc, for about $1500. The scopes are well made and the adjustments are accurate. I have found that 24 power is good for accurate shooting but you need to spot at about 12 power to locate the targets quickly, then crank up the power before you shoot. 24 power gives you the ability to hold on a specific part of the target (subject to accurate calls from your spotter) rather than waste time trying to dial in minor corrections.
Yep, operationally, pretty much sums it up. Just about all our FTR ppl use them and have for 2~3years.
Not really. Its mostly a case of "good enough" and what I can afford. I like the S3 6~24-50 but I might go 8~32-56 for $100 more. I dont like the S3's shallow eye relief at x24 however, its one failing. The other one for the money looks like the Bushnell elite 6500 4.5-30x50 Mil-Dot Matte Tactical, better variable range but I dont know about the glass quality of them, I'd go for glass over variable range. I am looking around for other possibilities, I have a few months yet.

what is your main intended use - purely target shooting or hunting?
Zeiss Hd5 . Come with target turrets. 5-25x50 I'm about to buy my second one I think they're great. Nothing wrong with the Sightrons though I really rate them too.

what rifle are you putting this scope onto ? IMHO spending money on a barrel is significantly better investment for FTR than a scope. then invest in decent (lapua) brass and projectiles as well as measuring equipment for reloading. scope is about the last thing I would spend money on...
there are several budget option scopes that would get you pretty competitive IF you have a decent barrel and good bedding, and the shooter does their part.
Nikko Stirling Target Master 6-24 or 8-32 both perfectly fine
Weaver T-series fixed, either 24 or 36 power
Clearidge XP5 4.5-22.5
Viva la Howa ! R.I.P. Toby | Black rifles matter... | #illegitimate_ute
Zeiss Conquest HD5 5-25x50mm Lockable Target Turret Riflescope NZ$1676

hmm fits budget.
as does a viper PST Vortex 6-24x50 Viper PST EBR-1 (MRAD) $1500
Vortex 6-24x50 Viper PST EBR-1 (MRAD)
So a choice of 4.
@ebf Im off nikko sterlings. Not into fixed power at x24 its a pig to get on target.
I have reloading gear, a few bits left to buy but nothing big. Currently new ADI sorted by weight but I'll probably upgrade to Lapua.
Barrel, yes it will be a match grade one, probably a shilen, lilja or Kreiger, I have upper and BCG to hand.
"last thing" yes until the next gun.
