Ive had 5 different scopes on mine over the years, really depends on what you're doing with it.Bottom end the mueller 4.5-14x40 is good value up to a 4200 4-16x40 which I prefer,not that you need 16x but with reasonable glass its fun watching hits on high mag.Loupys VX2 4x12x40 AO with the LR reticle works very well wtih the HMR and would come a close second out of the ones Iv tried.
Burrises ballistic plex is sopposed to work well with the 17hmr?
Simmons 44 Mag are REEEALLY good value for the $$ and you can get them out of the US for under $100 nz landed (when on super specials) where they are $500 + here

Splash out and buy a Swaro Z3, they are cheap for the glass you get... your always busy, it must be turning into $$$$
I've got a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 on my HMR, and although probably better than 'mid-range', the clarity of the glass is so bloody good
for spotting that bunny under the bush, or 'is that a wallaby or not' when the light fades, they are just about unbeatable. They really come into their own in poor light, so it really boils down to figuring out the type of shooting you're going to do with it before making a choice.

you can use it on anything in the gun cabinet.
Nikon buckmasters 4.5-14x44 or the 6-18x44 is perfect for rimfires. Cheap, mildot reticle, not too heavy. (perfect for 300 magnums too :) )
Only downside is a relatively narrow FOV.
If you weren't a tradie we could recommend something a bit blinger :)

Never had a z3, just know they are nearly the same price as a vx3 but have far better glass.
I have had a Weaver Classic V16? 4-16x42 on my CZ452 17HMR for over two years now. It's as good as my shooting skills get and I have hit possums/cats/bunnies out to 150m. The only annoying thing is the AO feature if you are hunting a block like I do and encounter possums at 5m and then spot the next one at 100m. I have found a good setting now and feel very comfortable using the scope. Nice optics!
I found the V16 ideal when I had my CZ .17HMR. Mine had the .223 BDC reticle.Quote:
