by now you should know if varminting is you, so dont give yourself a set price, find what will do the job and work/save to get it . . . . at the least add another $500 to your budget, a litte more would be better if your buying new . . 2nd hand 1K might get you somerhing decent f your lucky and willing to wait

i like the 6.5-20 Leupolds, have 3, an older varilll, VX3LR, MK4 . . good glass, not fantastic euro but good enough for my older eyes to clearly see little critters out there, dial well, nice to use.

good advise above.
I have done quite a bit of varminting while living in Canada, I like the Leopold 5x20 power with the varmint reticle. for value,
I have two swarvo Z3 12 power and a Z5 25 power, both with the BRX fine, that I like more, but also a lot more expensive, buy the best you can afford, as a good fine reticle scope, is great for varmints, load development and target shooting,
keep an eye on sales and used quality scopes.
