    Scope for LR Rabit shooting

Looking for a scope to put on a .223, will be used to shoot the usual pests, rabbits, plovers and magpies out to a max of 450m.

I have a rangefinder so want to be able to 100% reliably dial my shots, looking for something in the mag range of around 15 power ish.

Budget to a max $1000. However is something will do the job for $500 then I'm happy to spend that much I prefer 1" tube and 44mm or less obj but that's not essential.

    What suggestions do you have?

you could try get a second hand sightron. the sIII 6-24x50, its turrets are spot on. that would be at the high end 1000 second hand. they have a higher mag range and bigger tube. its one awsome scope for the money. Leupold vx-III do the 4.5-14 that may be closer to what you are after. but for dialling the sightron is a lot of scope. Me mates got one on his 243. in the right conditions hes being shooting rabbits beyond 600 yards.

I run a Vortex Viper 6-18 , dial-able ,ballistic recticle, nice glass and a forever warranty. It was just under a grand new through any decent sports shop in NZ. 30mm tube.

if you can get one, get one of the old tasco titans. now before you all start going on about cheap and nasty tasco crap the original titan was 30 mm tubed and japanese optics from front to back. i showed mine to richard wilhelm in christchurch who was super fussy on optics. he wandered outside and compared it to a kahles etc then promptly declared that it was a damn good scope. light gathering was awesome in twilight and it was in general a great scope.
i also had a leupold vari x2 which was good but i took a spill with the rifle and snapped it in 1/2. leupold gave me a replacement scope with no warranty issues at all. great service.

The Vortex Viper is a good option i reckon, i have several.

Cameraland NY have the Viper 6.5-20x50 PA on special currently, dam good value.

    and in Mildot

I have one of these on one of my 284 win's and it performs well, shooting steel to 1,100 yards, and deer to 750.

    Great performance for the money.

I like my Niton monarch 4-16x42. 1" and only weighs 19 ounce from memory.
Only downside is that only has 40moa elevation. But that will be more than enough for a 223 out to 500-700m. Found the clarity and tracking to be really good. Believe the Mildot version is around 450 USD.
