Hi Team,
I've got a 223 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight made in the early 2000's.
Currently have steel Burris bases and rings and a Leupold FXII 4x33.

The Burris is solid and great quality, but is unnecessarily heavy and high for the small 4x33 scope. You can see the large gap between the scope objective and the barrel.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a low-weight and low-height mounting option?

Maybe Talley one piece mount rings? They are light and very good quality.
I have an EGW rail that I took off mine before I sold it, mine was the 308 so I'm assuming same action size
PM me this interests you.
I might even have some Luepy low PRW mounts to fit if I look through the drawers long/hard enough.

On mine I have super low leupold rings and it looks fantastic.
As Gary just said, use extra low leupold and go sighting in and hunting.
Trying to change to something else ( like talleys)is going to save you bugger all when the beginning of the problem on a light model 70 in 223 is the receiver which is too big and too heavy.
If you want a lighter 223, your best options would be to start with a Howa mini, a zastava or a CZ 527.

I have successfully used Burris rings in Leupold twist off bases, so I reckon you could give it a go, vice versa.Quote:

Yes that is the rings and no you do not need new bases
my featherweight sitting dead has weaver bases on her....ran with low weaver clip over rings...one each way..... make sure to leave me that scope in your will please.
nearly had a spoof moment when spotted it.....
