    Scope options / advice

    Hi Guys,
I have a new toy in the form of a T3 in 223.
I need to put a scope on it. There are a few parameters to fill / fit.

Mainly used for long range varminting ( rabbits ) with the very occasional walk for Deer / pig.

Based in Central Otago so it will get a work out on rabbits and number of rounds so gotta be reliable.

Must be side focus with Ballistic reticle as shooting will range from 100mtrs to 500mtrs

    Budget $800 - 1k

    any thoughts would be great
......eyes aren't getting any younger so 4-16 power as a start point

    cheers

i wouldn't get a balistic reticle . . dialing is better with a fine crosshair .. to me

Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50... Job Done.

Have had this scope on my varmint rig in your location for shooting rabbits.

Holdover under 300m then dial after that.

Perfect for goats and deer as well.

Slightly over budget but worth the extra $$ in my opinion.

I agree with not using a ballistic reticle, either fine duplex or a milling type reticle and dial for elevation.
I'd look at a Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 for something a little cheaper, you can get ballistic turrets for them if you so wish.
Vortec HST 4-16x44 or PST 4-16x50 are good choices for the money.

I can sell you a Burris Black Diamond 4-16 which meets all of your requirements.
These scopes are no longer available but were $1,500 new a couple of years ago. An internet link to the specs showing the reticle is here: https://www.impactguns.com/bur-blk-d...381009265.aspx

We did a low light test of a number of mounted scopes looking out to 300m, including a couple of Leupold VX3's, and this Burris blew them out of the water in terms of resolution and colour fringing. Everyone was rather surprised, including me.
It was mounted for a short time on my Ruger No1 in .22-250 because the turret spacing was perfect for the out of the norm Ruger ring spacing on the No1.

Scope is blemish free and the only reason for sale is I sold the No1.
    Price $950 inc freight.
