Looking for a new scope for silhouette shooting must have dependable tracking as top priority. Any suggestions I've only got about $500

Thanks but a bit too much magnification and too fine a dot for me.

I'm only shooting hunter class with a 10/22 so don't need a big expensive scope. Most guys in our club use 6x
One of the better guy's just uses a fixed 6x36 Leupold with a big target dot reticle, but that's over my budget.

Bushnell Trophy XLT 3-9x40mm with Mildot reticle... brand new come in about half of your budget. I have one and with the mildots and using the scope power/second focal plane reticle they work very well. I haven't bothered testing the click adjustments other than it sights in fine.

No worries. I used it for sils for a few years, have upgraded to a Leupold EFR with the same microdot. Found it way easier to shoot with than any other reticle, as it enabled me to focus on the target rather than the reticle.

6x really is too small for sils if you're keen at it, the larger magnification helps a lot. As well as breathing correctly

When I shot Hunter Class Silhouette many moons ago my club limited power @ 6x. Are there any current power limits on Hunter Class? On my Hunter Class I used a 2-7 AO Airgun scope with semi target turrets. Power was set on 6x and electical taped over the power ring. On my Open Class the industry standard was virtually Leupold 6.5-20 EFR Target Dot, a reasonable expensive scope. Gillie's suggestion for your Hunter Class would be a good solution.

Thanks not sure at national level but we have a gentleman's agreement of 6x to make it fair for everyone, especially when someone like me turns up with their possum gun with a 4x32.
@Gillie is your Bushnell mounted on a 22?
If so would you mind doing a test for me
Some other scopes I have in mind are a Redfield revolution 3-9x40 with Accurange reticle at $499 made by Leupold so may be a good choice.
And a Vortex crossfire II 3-9x40 with v-brite reticle at $399.

I was wondering if you could fire a shots at 50m with scope zero'ed then click scope up 16 clicks fire a couple more then adjust it 32 clicks down fire a couple more then come up 16 clicks fire one more and see if it is on your zero point. The other shots should be 2 inches high and 2 inches low.
If its not on your rifle anymore not to worry.

Personally I'd go for the one with the clearest reticle, which looks like the Refield. However equally important is having a scope that holds its clicks adjustments AND is very easy to adjust. No point have a scope that requires screwdriver/coin for adjustments, as you'll need to adjust every 10 shots when moving onto the next bank. But get a scope that holds zero and is easy to adjust, don't use mildots and holdover.

Best way to win - practise on turkeys and rams, as chickens are close being only 40m and pigs are easier as they're the biggest target option at 60m. Sils shooting does sort the men from the boys, give centrefire a try, 200m standing and still no slings
