    Scope recommendtions for Sako Bavarian

    Hi there!

Recently got a good deal on a new sako bavarian in 308. Wrestling with scope options. I do a variety of different hunting, anywhere from hunting pigs on open farms in Northland to open tops in Kaimanawas and dense kaimai's, usually under 300m. I'm liking the idea of the VORTEX VIPER PST 2.5-10X44, however being that the rifle is quite traditional I feel it wouldn't really suit...

Are there any other options I should be considering? zeiss conquest hd5 3-15x42 could be another... Running optilocks 30MM LOW

Any help would be much appreciated.

My pick would be a swaro 3-9x36, kahles 2-7x36 or a kahles 1.6-8x42 if you wanted something a little better in low light. Small, light weight, good quality glass scopes.

VX6 1-6 x24 could be an option as well, more traditional look with no objective bell

6x heaps for most shooting applications, might be pushing it at 300 though

    Cheers

6x is fine to +400 on large animals... if you think about it a 6x scope improves your open sights at 100m to an effective 600m.... and most would not suggest that 100m with open sights with a well tuned rifle is not acceptable

+1 on the VX6 1-6... get the CDS version

I doubt vortex would have the glass required for your needs mate. Leupy or some euro glass HD5 are 1inch tube so new rings would be needed.

We worth looking at something like a Swaro Z3 3-10x42. Still a fairly light scope with good versatility.

Optilocks are new and can exchange without a problem, looks like I'll be reducing size. Like the sound of the Swaro

Nothing wrong with the Swaro... get the 4A reticle..

not dial-able though if thats an issue.... other option is a VX-3 2.5-8 CDS or 3.5-10 CDS

I would go for lightness and optic quality - therefore Swarovski (already got a few ticks in this thread). What is you budget?
Only issue is your 30mm rings would not suit a Z3 3-9x36 but the scope itself would be a superb mate for the Bavarian.

Budget was for around 1k, however I'm aware I won't be able to get into any euro glass for that price. Could stretch to $1500 if I can be convinced to spend the extra, if it's worth the investment. Wanting to keep this rifle for a very long time and have it as my goto.

Very much appreciate the feedback so far.

I'd agree about the above mentioned Swarovski. I am also a fan of the small Kahles. I own two @3-9x42. CT and KX. Light and the type of quality your talking about.

S&B Klassik 3-12x50mm. You will fit 50mm obj on those rings. Thats what I have...

I am a Nightforce man myself, 2.5-10x42 NXS compact or the SHV would be a good choice.
