So I'm not the only one who changes them around... Gets old after a few rotations. Sighting in again even more so.

    Why? If something ain't broke....

Having said that, I've just moved a decent quality scope from my 22LR to my .308 and it's worked well. Couldn't be happier. Now, just have to conspire to get that scope for the 22LR that I have coveted for some time.

    Greetings,
I must admit to being a victim of the scope rotation mania. Early on it was driven by a scope shortfall compared to rifles and some pretty basic scopes in the inventory. More recently, having not bought a new rifle for almost 6 years, this has eased somewhat. There are still some decent scopes left in the cupboard when the music stops.

By explanation (referring to the top photo) the rifles are all Weihrauch HW60J: top one 222 Remington, middle 22 Hornet (new model designation CH66J - Factory threaded and no iron sights), bottom 22LR.

Two years ago I bought the 222 and BUSHNELL ELITE 6500 2.5-16x 42mm or 44mm front lens, for $900, separately. The combination of calibre, rifle brand, scope and accurate reloads; ADI AR2207 18.5grn pushing a Hornady 2266 55grn resulted in laser beam type accuracy.

Since then I've been looking for a second Elite 6500, the old ones, made in Japan, not the new ones. A few weeks ago one came up on TradeMe for $725, Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x 50mm front lens, 30mm tube.

In buying the second one I broke two of my rules around scopes; 1: You don't need 30x for a hunting rifle! 2: A 50mm front optic is way too BIG for a hunting rifle! But it was the only old school 6500 I had seen.....So the rules didn't apply!

The 30x has gone onto the 222. With that scope, rifle combination I hope to be able to whack rabbits out to 300m.
The 16x has gone onto the Hornet. Which is currently my close rang Canada Goose rifle.
The Vortex Viper has gone onto the 22LR firing high velocity ammunition.

The bottom two rifles are both fitted with din rails, which allows me to swap the daylight scope for a thermal, which out in the field.

PS Last night I started in chasing geese with the Hornet loaded with the BEE projectiles. Very good terminal results so far at close ranges. I'm off now to swap the thermal for the BUSHNELL and fire a couple of sighters. I've got a date with a flock of geese at a retirement village, who fly in at 1.30pm ever day. Then a second date at 3pm on a lifestyle block where the geese come in every day when the land owners feeds the chickens. Should be an interesting day.....

Those old Bushnells were made by Light Optical Works
Same OEM that made the original Nightforce NXS.

The later Bushnell LRHS and LRTS were even better, very good dial up scopes and first focal plane reticles.

    Have a few myself...

What's always bugged me is the thought that Japan could make the best hunting rifles and scopes in the world if they wanted to (Miroku make some nice guns and Howa does not get enough credit, even if the barrels are just OK the actions are solid).

March scopes have sadly never made an out and out hunting scope. Always been too high mag range and seemingly fragile.

    Greetings Again,
I think that manic scope rotation fits in with the burning need to load every case in the inventory experienced by some new (or not so new) handloaders. The first can result in no rifles that are zeroed currently in the safe and the second with no cases to try a new load turned up by diligent study of handloading publications.
    Have been guilty of both.
    Regards Grandpamac.

The Delta Titanium are made by LOW too and their elevation and windage turrets are identical in their markings to the Bushnell 6500.

Hey @grandpamac you have just summarized my life. Three weeks ago I had zero live Hornet rounds, and lots of brass! I started this week with 300 Hornet rounds, 100 X three different projectiles, plus 150 X 222 rounds.
Yes! I'm experimenting with different projectiles, most with the same 10.5grns og AR2207. But not for grouping on cardboard, mainly to see what stops a beating heart the best. As I mentioned I'm onto Canada Goose this week, so more on that later.
I did spend some time shooting cardboard today, only to get all three rifles back ON!
Now I'm on a stake out! Name: 20240611_110118.jpg

I might wait for that lady to go back inside before I started shooting. Basically, feeding time for the ducks and chickens is like a dinner gong for the geese!
