    Scope suggestion for ar15

So I have joined the Meccano rifle club and got an ar, curious about the optics others are using and how they have been finding them. Initially thought low mag wide field of view but starting to lean towards 3-9 type mag range. I was looking at sighron, weaver etc.

On a side not has anybody tried the bushnell ar series, pretty cheap and good eye relief, like the concept but not sure of quality

I'm not terribly impressed with the Bushnell line. The turrets feel yuck. If I was starting out I would be looking at the leupold Mk AR Mod 1, Redfield TAC MOA, Vortex PST 1-5 or 2.5-10. If you can swing it, the Vortex Razor 1-6 is outstanding.

Vortex PST 2.5-10 is what I have on my AR10 - rate it very highly.

Depends what you want to shoot, and how far away.

The Bushnell 'AR' scopes seem to be very big and heavy for what they are, plus I'm pretty sure scope makers only put 'AR' into the scope name as a marketing gimmick so they can sell more to people who don't really know anything about them.

    Scope suggestion for ar15

Cannot rate the Leupold mark ar's enough light enough and set for 55gr, I'm pretty sure the 3-9s even have a firedot option

Hadn't seen the leupold option (wasn't really planning on buying an ar so never paid much attention to what is around for them) the Leopold option seems to tick all the boxes, will track one down). That seemed too easy...

This will be a general knock around, wallabys over the dog type setup. I have other rifles more suited to longer range work etc. looking forward to getting it warm...

My option, Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16X44.
It was shot at more or less 50 meters.

I have a leupold mark ar 1.5-4 without firedot. It's nice and light but regret not getting the firedot and I do find the magnification a bit low for shooting pests etc. Also the 1.5 magnification messes me up, a true 1 power would be far better. A 3-9 would probably be better suited. I had a nikon prostate 3-9 x 40 on my previous ar and that was ideal. Really high quality glass

The leupold has 2 options. I chose the 4-12 which also has adjustable parrallax or whatever it's called. Have been using it as a bit of a manual rangefinder with really close results when matched with my rangefinder settings. Makes for a very clear scope. The 4-12 doesn't have firedot option but I'm ok with that. Haven't actually seen a 3-9 in nz with firedot but I didn't look hard. I went from a 3-9 nikon to the 4-12 (which is smaller than my nikon was) and found it worth doing. Hope that helps

I got a plain old Burris full field 2 3-9 on my AR and it does the business I don't see the need for a dedicated AR scope - seems to be a gimmick that a lot of people fall for .

When you can rangefinder something at whatever range and just dial the turret round to that number it makes things very easy. Good fun for popping rabbits out at distance
