    Scope tracking

In light of the recent discussions regarding dialling vs glass, I thought I’d start a new thread about rifle tracking. Who here regularly completes tracking tests on their rifle scopes?

And what mid priced scopes ($1500 - $3000) have reliable tracking. As we all know, nightforce have reliable tracking. The delta scopes also seem to be good completing the military tracking test with a perfect score. I also believe sightron scopes are great for dialling.

So who has done tracking tests in their scopes and how did the perform?

Tested my new one out the other day (swaro) with a box test at 100m and went perfect back to zero

The Arken scopes we sell have a tracking guarantee. An actual torture test of tracking here - skip to 2:30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSvh2d8m9_A
These scopes are designed for tracking first. A rarity in the optics world. Our next shipment of these are almost all gone.

Leupold VX5 3-15x44 has always been flawless and dials true to MOA.

Swaro Z5 3-18x44 has always returned to zero without issue but what I have found is it doesn’t dial true MOA. It’s more like shooters MOA or maybe even a little less. I do recall Greg Duley writing something about how an MOA on a Swaro is often 0.975” or something. Doesn’t cause me an issue, just need to adjust my ballistics app to shooters MOA and make sure I true it and adjust MV to make everything marry up.

Yes they dont have the massive overheads of a global corporate + marketing budget. Ive been an optics importer for 11 years now and the Arkens are by far the most in demand product we have come across. They are only just now clearing a 6 month list in USA. We cant buy enough off them to satisfy the NZ market.

My z5 needed an elevation correction of 1.025 to be on the money.

so,can you not do a test just using a collimeter/boresighter????
eg pop it in...and start twiddlin and see if it goes back to where it started out????
thats about the limit to what I have done...my older vx11 wouldnt move Xhairs upas it had been zeroed for so long without moving,I boresighted it on wall and just kept working dial slowly till it woke up and started shifting as per normal...its stayed on zero for 20ish years now...cant be much wrong with it LOL.

On the ones that dial, either my own or friends scopes. Just the scopes on their own, checked at 100m irrespective of whether mil or moa. Right through the full range, elevation and windage, recording the % readings for overlaying onto any future lookup data. Check backlash at the same time.

I was with @Puffin when he checked my tract scope, I’m not sure why you would need to shoot any bullets to check tracking.

When shooting at the range we move the point of aim up and down and left and right but aim at the same point this gives us multiple groups on the same target and reduces the chance holes landing in the black lines which can be hard to spot at 200m.

I’ve not needed to and would prefer not to dial when hunting for two reasons one ethical kill and I’m not fit enough to walk to shot animals at long range, if we shot somewhere flatter and can guarantee a clean kill I might be tempted.
