    Scope for walkabout varminter/gong rifle

Hopefully I'll be building a modest varmint rifle soon, probly to be in 6mm Creedmoor (or pretty similar 6mm).

The main use for the rifle will be tagging wallabies, goats and similar size critters, with the occasional smaller pestie for variety. And Gongs, I'd like to go on the occasional shoot (to participate rather than take on the serious boys)

Currently I usually don't shoot anything live much past 300M, but with this rifle I'd like to get out to 500M or so on game, and gongs to a 1000 or so.

I do shoot an FTR rifle to 600M, its got a Sightron S111 8-32x56 up, its way too much scope for walking about - but its bloody good glass.

The rifle will be about 3.7 kgs I think, and I'd like to keep the whole rig "carriable" so maybe 700-800gms for the scope.

So - suggestions for a scope for such a rifle - budget is about $1200 . . . . and then there's reticles, but these seem to getting covered pretty well in other threads.

    Thanks

PS - I'm usually happy to buy secondhand so it can be a older model . . .

Looking for something similar. $1200 means Vortex I think, I have been trying to update myself on what is around. So much more than when people first started LR

I had a rifle like you describe with a PM2 on it and while you can't fault them they are HEAVY. Lighter is good.

Bushnell Engage 4-16x44 about $1100 or Vortex Viper HST 4-16x44 for around same price, I would go for the bushnell

    Or by chainsaw's scope

I currently have an Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 Mil. I'm thinking about upgrading to the Ares ETR, just for more elevation adjustment (it's on my 22LR and I want to stretch it out to 500m plus).

I'll do some investigation on the availability of the ETR, but thinking $1,200 for my BTR if that's of interest?

I have 102 moa in my scope from a 50m zero and that gets me to 420m and 20 in the reticle gets me to 470m.
    That's with a 55moa rail shooting subs.

Yeah, I'm much the same with my current setup using a 20 MOA rail and Burris Tactical rings with offsets. I'm pretty much at the bottom of the available elevation with a 50m zero and can get to about 385 dialling and to 470 with holdover. with the extra E available in the ETR I should get to 460 dialling and 550m with holdover.
