Toby, I would look at a new Kahles 2 - 7 x 36? or a leupold v3 2.5 to 8 x 36. Both good scopes for bush work. Kahles glass is pretty damm good. Worth about a grand here. Leupy should be 550 ish.

The Kahles has 10mm clicks so easier to work out your adjustments and ... it has genuine 2x magnification at the lowest setting whereas many nominal 2-7x scopes (including a certain brand from the Pacific Northwest) are actually 2.3x to 2.5x at their lowest setting.
