    Under 1k?
Rem 783 would be a good buy
Over 1k you're in for an earbashing

I'm assuming you were talking about s/hand not new.
If so then this would be a good deal for $500

Savages shoot well with only the odd exception, and it has the accutrigger so it can't be more than 7-8yrs old.

I'd buy a second hand Tikka from Tardme. For under 1k you can easily find a good second hand one with a decent scope on it.

The CZ's are hard to beat straight outta the box. Proper mini action and shoot like a CZ should

    11 International Trophy Hunter - 223Rem - Sportways Gunshed

Good rifle, brand new with a decent scope for $1k.

The camo'd trademe Savage mentioned above is a heavy barreled varmint model, they're lovely to shoot but a bitch to carry.

Ive got a Howa 1500 in 223, its a bit heavy if your after something super light weight, but it shoots 1 inch or less groups with my budget handloads and ive slayed goats up2 about 250m with no problem. Shoots pretty good with s and b ammo but isnt even worth mentioning how it preformed with barnaul.

You'd probably get a good deal on one bare too.

I see they also have the American Classic (nice wood/blued version) for $950 bare, its what I have and shoots really well. Solid feel, smooth action, sweet trigger, shoots sub inch groups with some factory ammo and half inch (or better) with quite a variety of handloads. Tad heavier than the synthetic versions but not too bad.

Always a few good second hand rifles of assorted brands floating around on TM etc too, keep an eye out and see what takes your fancy
