    Shipping Woes

    Hey guys,

I'm still pretty fresh and have had my license for about 18months max.

I recently won a trademe deal for a rifle in Christchurch - it was a steal and exactly what I've been wanting for a while.
It was rifle, hard case and ammo.

My only issue is, how on earth do i get it all sent up to auckland?

I've booked to fly down and grab it because that seems to be the only easy way at the moment. But in future I'd really like a more straight forward solution

I dont mind doing the order form and taking it to a Police station or anything like that

    Ideas?

My knoeledge pre-covid. If you are flying down to collect, and planning on flying back, you MUST contact the airline well (weeks) in advance and advise them you will be checking in a firearm on the return flight. Ask them for any extra details you need to know to make the experience smooth and stress free.

It's usually an $80 round trip to ship a rifle via the Firearms dealer network, obtain the correct police paperwork and use that service. Used it a few times now with no problems.

And air Nz will charge extra luggage cost if you don’t Pre book $35 each way for rifle. Counts as one piece of luggage.

Thanks everyone... yeah the rifle was no issue and I could work that out. Hunting and fishing were going to charge me $60 I think. But it was the ammo that I struggled with for shipping - hence flying down.

better go call the airlines.... can't wait for a 40min hold time

Toll will ship ammo. For some reason most carriers seem to get even more "wadded up" over ammo than firearms but I've had several shipments from both Islands recently via Toll,

Rifle in locked case, checked bags
Ammo checked no loose rounds, separate checked bag
    Bolt separate from rifle
    Phone and advise in advance
Check in early, need to check as special item

And Toll are one of the cheapest couriers...but also take the longest to deliver.

I had a rifle sent up from the south island through the dealer network via hunting & fishing. I was not happy about this but had no other choice as they were the only dealer in the town where the rifle was coming from. I dislike h&f for two reasons
    1. Years ago I purchases a t3 and when I got it home there was a crack in the bolt shroud. I called them and was told I must have dropped it!!
2.they threw owners of E cats under the bus.

Anyway....when the rifle finally arrived I got the call and had to go in to pick it up.
Wait for it.....when I went in the rifle was not there. The clowns had given the wrong rifle to someone else who was also picking one up. Emmmm how does that happen when my name is clearly on the box. Did they even check the guys licence??? If they did then how did it happen.. Anyway it gets worse as when I went to pick it up (the guy who took it drove it back when half way home he realised my name was on the box). h&f then tried to say that the courier hadn't been paid for. I made quite a scene about how incompetent they were and how I would never set foot in the shop again in front of their customers before showing them the receipt I had from the seller.

What clowns... I've vowed never to set foot in there again

WOW! what a story... how you can give out the wrong package to anyone is beyond me, surely you would be looking thrice at names.
