Shot clipped Suppressor.
Was out the other night on the bike shooting a few rabbits around the neighbourhood and when I shot I heard a clang sound somewhat like a ricochet and I missed the target by about 1m. Not great shooting considering it was only about 15m range. What the f!#k I thought and immediately thought of the suppressor and checked it to find it had come loose and I could feel a burr on the outside of the hole in the end. Tightened it up after checking I could see light through the end and continued to shoot a couple more rabbits with no problems although range was only 30 -40m.
Quick questions:
1. Is it likely to affect accuracy greatly, rifle is a .17HMR?
2. Am I likely to need to replace the Suppressor or do I just need to turn the hole out slightly to tidy it up ?
3. I am picking if I need to do the above a.22cal hole in the end should remove all the damage but would it still be effective as a suppressor for this rifle?
Has anyone any similar experiences?

For a 17hmr (rimfire) I would not worry too much about it.

If it still groups ok, I wouldn’t worry about it

Hi That was a bugger
most cans on 17hmr are for 22 cals unless you ask for a .17 can [they are available ] bore is a lot smaller than a 22 lr hole
you can tidy the exit hole [just for looks ] maybe by doing this the noise of the 17 will be louder by a tad
the smaller the exit hole on a can usually the quieter it is ,,But it really needs to be aligned dead true ,and sometimes to small of clearance can cause the air inside to pull the projectile off center
Happy hunting

From the photo, thankfully it looks minor so I wouldn't worry, that said try it and see if the accuracy is effected.

Thank you all for your advise.
Yes it is a specific .17 Suppressor not a .22/.17 version.
I plan on checking if the accuracy is affected but in the meantime am away to shoot more rabbits in the neighbourhood we seem to be plagued with them lately.

Somewhere and I can't be arsed finding it there's a thread with a pic of my 223 suppressor with 2 major chunks taken out of the nosecap, I ran a file over them to remove the burr and it's probably done another 1000 rounds since. You'll be fine.

Have yet to check the accuracy on paper but have been out again the last 2 evenings shooting bunnies in the neighbourhood with 11 shot last evening and 4 this evening and to be honest haven't noticed any difference. Might just leave it at that unless I notice a deterioration in the near future.
