00 buckshot is good out to 25-30 m. depending on the choke of your gun.

I like to pin up a sheet of cardboard at 30 m. and fire one shot at it, to see the spread of pellets.

Avoid number 3 or 4 bird shot, it's way too small for effective kills on goats unless you're right on top of them.

Ah well. Guess I'll have to find some more cheap 00 buck shot.
