Should I cut my 6.5 PRC to 20"?

I have a bergara extreme 6.5 PRC at 24 inches. Just wondering if anyone has a 6.5 PRC and is running 20" or less and has any good feedback on it.

I'm running a Hardy Stealth suppressor which has awesome sound suppression but a bit long too. Thinking about changing to a Hardy compact suppressor.

I run a 19" 300wsm and love it, yup sure a 24" 300wsm would get heaps more velocity but the 19" is just so much nicer to carry and is still plenty enough out to plenty far away,
In summary if you want a 20" 6.5prc do the sums on velocity and see how it stacks up, if still happy it's got enpugh for your intended use DO IT, I don't regret it for a second.
Was bloody hard chopping a new unfired barrel though

Awesome. Thanks. Yep the numbers stack up. Still plenty of energy and velocity at 20".

Funny thing is, I was actually going to buy a 300wsm but they didn't have one in stock and they talked me into the PRC in the meantime. Its been a nice shooter so far.

Do it you won’t regret it. I have a 7mm rem mag I cut down from 26” to 22”. I ended up losing next to no velocity as I just stoked my load up a bit. Have just put a 20” 6.5prc barrel on one of my other guns and with a Hardy compact it’s a nice length and balance. About to start load development.

Remember, even with a suppressor hearing protection is still needed with that class of cartridge, so perhaps running it without the suppressor and hanging some ear plugs from your hat might be worth a try before cutting

I have cut a Bergara mountain 6.5 prc to 20” the other day and fitted a Dpt on it.
Very well balanced . Specially with the carbon factory stock which is of really good quality.

I have cut plenty to 20" and as short as 18". Drops factory ammo velocity down to about 24" creedmoor speeds but you can rake much of it back if you hand load with a faster burning powder.

So right....the only way it would shoot smaller groups now would be to go to a small caliber, frequently shoots 1 hole 3 shot groups with relative ease. No regerts

I've got one getting chopped to 20 at the moment. If you plan to run suppressed dunno why you would want any longer.
