You can trim a spring in the trigger to lighten it
Or you can replace it with a lighter spring
My Grendel i did myself just trimmed the spring a little
The creedmoor I had the gunsmith do but feels exactly the same as the Grendel so id say he’s just done the same
Probably replaced with a lighter spring being a gunsmith and all

The shop gives you someone else's rifle, and some ammo, you go to the range and shoot it, give it back and move onto the next rifle... As well as getting beer money!

LOL I wish it was that easy. I had no idea how dangerous just a tiny bit of misguided knowledge derived off of Google, YouTube or the neighbours can be.

The trimming springs option is kinda meh...

Far better to drop in a spring kit. Gunbloke's are excellent. I have three kits, all 2lb, for the HACT triggers. They make a significant improvement to the trigger, worlds apart from the factory feel with the heavy springs.

Perfectly safe, for the reasons outlined above.
@Pete_D, buy them through the ebay.com.au store, easier. No problems getting them here.

I've been arguing the case on these HACT triggers just yesterday, there's a shit load of misinformation on how they work, and how "adjustable" they are, and a lot of crap information on forums. Glad to see its getting a sensible go here in this thread.

Bottom line, the shooter needs to watch the videos to see how they work (simple) and understand the limitations and risks of trying to wind out the screw to achieve a lighter pull. It is far better and far safer to use a lighter spring. Like I say, I far prefer to use kit springs.

Properly lubricated and with a lighter spring, an effortless 2lb pull with no creep is just normal for my Howas.

As for spending $280 on a Timney for a $800 rifle....

Thanks @Flyblown that's great to know. I'll order one from eBay - any idea what the factory trigger weight would likely be, i don't have a trigger gauge. I would like to go lighter just not sure how much. Any thoughts ? cheers

Just shoot the thing put a snap cap in and do your dry firing practise it will improve your trigger skills and polish the trigger at the same time.

2lb kits work for me. But I'm used to lighter triggers. And I practice with them a lot, dry firing after installation, and then with live rounds at paper, just to retrain the finger and brain.

No idea what the factory setting was on my Howas, they were all different though. Probably 3-4lbs. But the pull weight wasn't really the issue, it was the gritty creep. The last one I bought which was the heavy barrel Creedmoor was a complete toad of a factory trigger. That's been eliminated with the lighter springs (plus a good clean and lubricate).

It also depends a lot on what kind of shooting you doing. If its more precision work like what I mostly do i.e. shooting animals at longer ranges, prone, then lighter is better. But for a woods gun I want something a bit heavier, for shooting offhand in a bit of a hurry. To that end, I have a lightweight Tikka build in 308 that I actually increased the trigger weight on, as I found that in certain circumstances I was prone to discharging the rifle slightly earlier than I intended when swinging it onto a lead on a running animal (usually a pig), resulting in me in hitting the animal to far back to stop it in one.

So up to you, but if you're mostly shooting prone or of a rest of some kind and then 2lb should be fine.

It can be shocking what you see at a range, just getting basics right.

Shot my(the boys) new one today and am pleased to say it shoots well with cheap factory ammo also .

My Hact came out of the box at 4lb. Living in Australia I sent my trigger to Glen Couglan " the ebay trigger guy" you specified what pull weight you desire and thats how it comes back. He can tune them down under 1lb for the target/varmint guys. Mine came back at 1.5 and I can increase it if I want to.

My 30.06 shoots stupid small groups with the winchester 150gr power point ammo so I don't bother hand loading for it now.

hopefully they arrive with the option of a drop floor plate and double stack by then as well as Stainless
Id be all over that if it costs the same as the 223/7.62x39 model
