Help out a lazy bloke , started doing research on a can for a 6.5cr hunting use.There are so many options. Barrels is threaded 14 or 15 x1.
Hardy and dmt currently in run then found some more. Obviously want it as small, light ,accurate and cheap , pick any 3 hey
The cheap I know won't be a option

Which one and why please

6.5 Creedmoor is not legal in South Island but ok in North Island

Could tell a very funny story about a NI Hunter with a brand new mega buck 6.5 CM that I was guiding.

Turns out his gunsmith set it up for him and it was good too go.

I think both the gunsmith ( unknown ) and Hunter were Muppets.
It was not good too go
It was not even able to hit a very big box at 50m

Hence not legal in SI any more

But in all seriousness a DPT is the way too go because ok price and easy to service and clean

So I go out 1 hour before it's light and find 7 deer with the thermal
Radio the Hunter to get his shot together and leave camp.
Gets to me and i get him to 400m from the deer
Says this is close enough for me too shoot
I say we can get 150 closer
No I want to shoot from here the Creedmoor will do it at a canter

So this is a brand new gun set up by someone else with one of those laser sights that give hold over
All programmed from the numbers on a factory box of ammo

So you get the outcome you deserve
No hits
No deer
No idea where they missed to

Turns out he had no idea how to sight a rifle in, let alone program a ballistic calculator scope

The week did not improve and to add insult to massive injury I shot a red deer and a chamois with my 50 cal muzzleloader when I gave up and went out alone

Akaroa, they probably used one of those bore sighters - back when i was still guiding in africa, every time ive seen a yank with a new rifle they swear by it, get them at the start of the trip. Lets check zero, no i dont need to, its sighted in ( this is after flying and 300km plus of shit dirt roads, at this point you know the trip is gonna go to shit- YES YOU DO, 2 shots later , see why we do it. I stood in a gunshop while a salesman told a bloke his new gun been zeroed using a bore sight - he wil be right for a roo shoot that night, not been back to said shop ;p

its the shot not the caliber or the gun,
Ive shot water buffalo and killed more donkeys and camels than cholera with mine, though it is a 6.5x47 -been using it since 2003 - officially only launched in 2005, before the Cr and 260s came out.
btw more game has been killed in europe with 6.5 than any other caliber
only got a 6.5 Cr for this trip as ammo for the x47 u roll yourself, very lil in the shops

@Sharki I'm not a 6.5 hater. My primary big game rifle is a 6.5x65R

I'm just doing what the 270 haters do for light entertainment

6.5 all the way for me its just the man bun doesn't do anything more amazingly than the 100+yr old one does in a modern action yawn....hell I've got 3 different flavored 6.5s

DPT or Gunworks. Ultimately the difference between the two comes down to what you value - DPT are a bit lighter and more expensive while Gunworks are a bit heavier and cheaper. Both are excellent.

If you're going to beat the hell out of it and hunt rough, buy a gunworks suppressor, they're bombproof. If you aren't going to toss it in the back of a truck and drag it around, buy a DPT. I'd be totally happy with either.

Surely all that would be the guides fault?
It would be in the north island. That's why guides on bow and creedmore hunts carry a rifle up here.
