    Single Point sight

    I came into possession of a Single Point sight recently and have been trying to find out more about them. I've read that they were used by US special forces in a prominent raid during the cold War, that British squaddies weren't issued them but some were seen with them on weapons while in Northern Ireland, and that Popular Mechanics did an article on them back in the day. They have a fibre optic dot that you see with the eye you look through it with, but can't seen anything else, your other eye stays open and your brain superimposes what both eyes see so it looks like the dot is where where the rifle is pointing. Any know much more about them?

    Sounds like you’re talking about the original Aimpoint sight? Mid 70’s I think

    Armson OEG. Used them in South Africa on tranquilliser guns! Tricky at first but once you get used to them, they work well.

    Like this one maybe?
    used to see some around 20+ years ago but they were a lot bigger. This would be one of the smallest of the type around and you can still buy them as per his link
    As @Bol Tackshin posted they do work well but no light gathering at all. Had mine refurbished couple of years back and they put some new tritium in there. Good for another 8 years (from now that is-10 year life span). No batteries.
    I have a left master eye but shoot right handed. These work a treat for me.
    OEG=occluded eye gunsight.
