    Single Shot 22 restoration

    hi team
    what is this single shot?
I can make out on the barrel:
    "NEW HAVEN CONN USA"
    "MODEL 25 22S L - LR"

my grandfather thinks he acquired it around 40 to 50 years ago.

thought it would be a good basic project for my son and i to tidy it up. No problem with sanding back the stock and staining or clear painting but what is the best way to tidy up the rusty steel?

Looks like a direct copy of a Savage Model 3 (a,b or c), which really nice little shooters! Holding the bolt is there any slop in the cocking handle?

it was in my dads garage, unused for at least 20 years before i claimed it recently. I took it home, gave the bore a clean and put a round in it. Lined up a pretty large diamond shaped target about 80m away and bong, hit it first time. It is a nice plinking gun, fun with the open sights.

I just did a rusty old Winchester, I polished the barrel in the lathe and draw filed the action to get rid of the pitting. I then cold blued it. Secret is a hi polish and degrease carefully before bluing, came up well

That's a Mossberg. Takes any of .22 Short, Long or Long Rifle ammo.

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

Doesn't look like you have heavy pitting etc, so just sandpaper and elbow grease

    I used cloth backed 180, 240, 320 and 400.
    Then wet-and-dry 600 and 1000.
Alternating lengthways along barrel, and then across (shoe-shine type motion) for each successive grit
