Doesn't look like you have heavy pitting etc, so just sandpaper and elbow grease

I used cloth backed 180, 240, 320 and 400.
Then wet-and-dry 600 and 1000.
Alternating lengthways along barrel, and then across (shoe-shine type motion) for each successive grit
