Looking at picking up a 20" SKS when I get back from Fiji or an NHM-90 currently undecided.
Can you still use stripper clips with the compact scopes/red dot sights?
Is it possible to convert the 5rd internal magazine to 7rds?

Ideal setup would be monte carlo stock, 7rd capacity and optics with provision for using stripper clips.
I'm currently selling a tidy unissued decosmolined sks carbine. Suppressed and has a 7 shot internal magazine. Here is the trade me auction number, havent relisted it yet. 872707425
I haven't tested mod for an actual dB reading or anything but it's certainly noticable. The sks's are fairly loud guns so definitely cuts the 'bang' down.
I was quite impressed shooting rifle with/without mod. Also helped reduce abit of the muzzle flip.
JRW87 I know it might not be exactly what your after but PM me if you're interested.
Cheers
Cheers, Ill have a think about it.
Yes you can still use stripper clips with short scopes.....I had one, but sold and bought a NHM-90......just because I could:thumbsup:
ive got one in my fun cupboard. i put one of the dragunov stocks on it and a cheap red dot. honestly its good fun to blast away with but the stock makes it heavy and i could never get used to the red dot so i put a cheap scope back on it. id keep the wood stock on it or replace with a Monte carlo stock for extra length if ya need it. as for the scope you should be ok as long as it doesnt go to far forward lol. i dont know about the mag capacity as mine was advertisied as 5rds but whoever cut the mag didnt do it right so it holds 6 hahahha. im getting an nhm shortly just waiting on the mailman now.
You just described my SKS. Attachment 35930

It's not for sale, but if you're up my way(Dorkland), you're welcome to take a look.
I wouldn't mind taking a look I want to put one of those stocks on mine
or you can do it this way. The receiver cover has two little guide pins that take the side to side slop out. The monte carlo stocks are good, the extra length does it, but they are heavier than the original.Attachment 35941

I got a draganov for mine.
Im also looking at the .308 M305 M14 copy, but reports say the quality is a bit hit and miss.
I've had both SKS and a chinese M14 copy (currently for sale). Decided to go the SKS way due to the decreased recoil outweighing the ballistic performance difference at the ranges i'm going to be using it - 100-150m. The standard SKS stock is definitely on the short side LOP wise and I'm only 5"9. I'm avoiding the dragunov stock (ATI at least) as, by all accounts, it has a raised portion to the rear of the receiver cover that means you have to remove the rifle from the stock to clean. Looking at a monte carlo style one instead.
If you go the SKS way, the biggest improvement i've found is new iron sights- i'm using a rear tech sight with a fire sight front, and it just makes it a new weapon
Gosh you guys would hate me if I showed you what my SKS looked like haha.
I bought my SKS from guncity advertised as a 5 round and it's actually a 7 round so sweet :D
I don't know about you guys but I have seen 4 sks'. All were listed as 5 round mag, yet every one has taken 7 rounds in the mag and fed, cycled and functioned perfectly
