    sleveing a 12ga to 20 or 28ga

hi there i brought a 12ga over under it has 2 sets of barrels but one has a small bulge just infront of the chamber the guy i brought it off sait that he was going to sleve the damaged set if barrels to 20ga
i thorght that would be quite cool to be able to change cals just by changeing barrel sets

any one got any idea of cost involved who would do it where to get sleves etc

    cheers

I've got a 12 g sleeved to .55" which is chambered for 28 g. I'm trying to load it to shoot a paper patched .54" ball in a brass cartridge. Down side is the butt is full of lead to balance it, weighs a ton,but I hope to use it as a double rifle. Sleeving should be easy if you find an engineer capable of boring that length of barrel.

How bads the bulge, I would think OK based on going into a larger chamber the pressures would be a lot less than a 12 g. I'd tie it to a tyre before my shoulder and test a few rounds

Yep I think mikes got it, I wouldn't sleeve it to use a a shotgun, I use one of these suckers, try it safely first and use a light load

how far does the bulge go down the barrel?

sounds very similar to a weapon I serviced while still working for the NZDF, we all though it was a bulge but couldn't feel it with a cleaning rod but could with a scriber, turned out it was a ring of plastic fouling.

Is there a definite change in the pressure on the cleaning rod as you push it through?
