Thread: Sling and suppressor?

I have a couple of rifles with suppressors that I'd like to try a new (to me) approach for the sling - I want to add a soft loop that rides on the barrel between the fore-end and the suppressor.

So when the rifle is slung the soft ring/loop rides up to the suppressor (DPT's in my case) which stops it. Most of my "old rifles" have the front sling swivel stud up on the barrel and they are a heck of a lot nicer to carry slung than modern stuff with the "cheap option" of a stud on the fore-end.

So has anybody tried this? Issues? Thoughts?

Nah, can't find anything. I've rigged one up but need a bigger sling swivel, once I get one I'll post a picture.

Tie a bit of string through the sling and round the barrel loosely.
Works great.

OK here's a mock up. The webbing I had isn't long enough. But it shows the principle and also that it can be done with minimal hardware (I hate hardware - usually just a rattling failure point)

Yup. Minimize the hardware. A principle taught to me by another superb seaman of Brians calibre. Brian taught me the best ever truckers hitch!

is that double so can be slung on both shoulders??? to sit centre of back...or just cause its what was on hand???
the commercial slings with nylon buckle normally have enough length in webbing to swap barrel for sling swivel and still thread webbing back through buckle...puts fattest part of sling really close to rifle/barrel is only downside if webbing is super short. paracord works to bridge the gap as Brian said.

Yep I use a similar sling. Except I have a loop around the stock pistol grip too to really get the rifle low behind my head. The top loop isn't hitched like yours as it will hold the barrel and effect POI. (won't matter at bush ranges though)
On my bartlein 2b barrel the loop around the barrel doesn't effect the POI but on my light barrelled tikka 223 it messes with the POI.
I used the rubber shoulder pad from a rifle sling and salvaged some light seat belt webbing from an old kids car seat for the bottom loop of sling.

You could try something like this just from mitre10.

I made a loop from strong string, looped it on itself around the barrel so it tightened under load and put the pin of the detachable sling swivel on the sling through it. Works perfectly, as long as you have a foresight or suppressor to stop it sliding off the end of the barrel.

I would suggest strips of leather or maybe even suede to form a loop over the barrel. Does not slip!

Oh so easy to make if I had an industrial sewing machine again. Are you coming up to the Hunter Challenge @Tentman? can bring some webbing and buckles and show you how to make it simple and tidy.

Damm. I gave a sailmakers machine away when we moved . . . . And I bet the guy who got it never uses it!
