Got 3 Sniders. Used to actively shoot in comps with 2 of them b4 I lost interest in BP shooting.
The 3rd Snider I think is a Khyber Pass jobby and I was never game to shoot it. Also has the non locking (suicide) action.
The 2 I did shoot I was fortunate - they were good at 100yd on steel, never needed regulating. 4 inches at 50 is a lot. Is there any obvious misalignment? Mine were loaded fairly mild with paper patched minie bullets. I also shot 2 Parker Hale Enfields, a Musketoon and a Naval Rifle. Both of those were initially off the target at 100yds. I made a replacement rear "v" for both of those and that solved them. Nearly buggered the Naval rifle as I attempted to move the front post by heating, thinking it was sweated on. Much (too much) heat later it fell off. Then I found it was actually positioned on the barrel with a pin under the post. I ended up refitting it and then made the change to the rear notch. With the Snider you would be reluctant to grind/cop/heat/file - well I would hope you would. Pity it shoots high at 50. Have you tried it at 100? If it shot low you could easily fix both windage and elevation by aralditing an adjusted v leaf behind the existing leaf. This is what I did with one of my Parker Hales taking it to the range and trying it b4 I made a permanent adjustment.
