Hey team. Can anyone recommend a half decent handheld spotlight that won't break the bank? Mostly for spotlighting on a farm.

I very much doubt it. This is an old T6 Led light with range of 300 meters by manufacturer specs. Any modern Maxtoch far beyond it.. If you've compared this light with a Maxtoch it must be a very old one..
CamFlatt - happy to help you with a Maxtoch suitable for hunting/farm - just PM me.
Mike
i have to admit i saw gadgetmans maxtoch and was bloody impressed and i repair one hell of allot of spotlights !
Yep you have to watch Chinese cheapies. This one says it uses a 4000mAh 18650 - they don't make those yet!!
Lightforce make good handhelds. The Maxtoch 2X and XPro rate up amongst their best - the HID lights - but at a fraction of price and weight, and no cables or batt systems. The cheapie mentioned above isn't in that class at all.
Moa - I see you're in Nth Canterbury - if you're coming to Chch soon bring your spottie and we'll do a lux/range comparison test with the Maxtochs - PM sent. Always good fun to see what's out there :)
Tropo - can lend you an XPro to test out if you haven't seen it..
I use a couple my favourite is an old led lenser hokus focus also a led lenser basic headlight the other ine i use is a night sabre led spotlight it is light as doesnt even feel like its got a battery in it its by far the brighest light ive got but i find it to bright if theres such a thing i prefer my old lensers for some reason i can see aninals easier with the not so bright light for some reason if we are spottong from the 4wd ive also got a light force or something its pretty big so only suited to vehicles my night shooting is usually around 10 to 40 meters so dont need a light that can shine 600km
I tested a Maxtoch at measured distances on my property on my farmed deer. Out to 300 metres I could clearly see the deer. At 350 I could see the clear outline of the deer with no colour difference to the background so the deer appeared as a dark shape with a clear outline. I was impressed with this. The linked torches were better because of a wider beam and better shooting light. Would this be because of the bigger reflector ??
What are the new Maxtoch torches like compared to the above mentioned one
Not me.. 200 max
Moa - don't know what Maxtoch you were using. Can only think an early domed version. Present 2X and XPro would light things up v well at 300 and show fields well past that.
I'd like to test your light - a T6 LED is an older one and wider beam you mention actually means less distance. Yes bigger reflector will help but I can't see it in the modern 300,000+ lux range. XPro nearly 500k. Manufacturer says 300 meters.
You've got my details - be good to look at this light sometime. Mike
Very strong on having beam lighting up areas well past target animal for safety with other stock etc.. Its part of the reason these Maxtoch beams are out to 1200m max (2X) and 1400m (XPro). Firing zone a real consideration when designing.
I think Wire most night shooting is less than 300m, but yep you are right - you can certainly do more in right terrain and with right gear.
havent had the ARCHER out after game yet...BUT it makes the headlights on the terrano look really sick....even better than the two led spots on bumper...from my front gate anything up street 2-300mtrs well lit up can even see our old house close to a km away...its a light coloured two story...Ive got another led light that will throw light as far...BUT its a pencil beam, bigger than old school dolphin and powered by a 7amphr 6vlt battery...hopeless for FINDING game but good for lighting them up once found...the archer seems to have best of both worlds, enough spread to be usefull but enough grunt in centre to see what your looking at....shits all over my led lenser of same size and the other similar size/battery ultrafire cree..... funny light to use that one, when you zoom right in you get a big square light patch LOL.
cant wait to try the wee archer on wallabies or bunnies.
Yes I agree, I did not actually shoot any of my farm deer to prove if it was possible at that range. I was surprised that the Maxtoch could do that (light them up clearly at 300), however they are a lot more expensive than the one's I linked and the OP was asking for info on a spotty that would leave his piggy bank intact.
That was a surprising response. But... then if a person shoots all their game behind wire deer fencing - which is obviously what 'Wirehunt' means, I suppose that same person can just fill the sky with lead no matter how far away they are and hope - like they are not going anywhere
True, however gravity does not make the projectiles fall up. Beyond your target the projectile will only drop and you can see that area.
My 7mm Rem Mag has a drop of 286 inches (nigh on 24 feet) at 1000 yards. That tells me that if I miss my mark at 4 feet above the ground then the impact will be well within the area I have lit up. If I cannot see clearly beyond, dips, hollows, ridge lines, I pass up the shot. Anyone who cannot make that decision should stay at home and take up knitting.
are you shooting deer at night time with spotlight
no worries just wondering what youd shoot with a 7mm rem mag at night time i dont have a problem with spotlighting obiuosly on private land we used to do it a lot in australia
i was thinking a 7mm rem mag was a bit extreme for rabbits i use my 22 hornet for longer shots on possums on the ground or rabbits
Assumptions are great things. Wirehunt was the kennel name for shock horror; german wirehaired pointers when I was breeding or at least thinking about it.
As for this back drop bullshit, if you are so green as to not do the forward planning and know where shit is on a block then you shouldn't fucking be there. But then in my line of work i think about it a hell of a lot.more than most.....
So you are a criminal then ?? Regardless of your 'line of work' and it is pretty obviously not with the diplomatic services, what did you hope to achieve by having an abusive crack at Sarvo for stating his opinion that 200 is far enough at night ??. P.S. I think about breeding quite a bit myself too, but with your bad temper maybe you should just leave it at the thinking stage...
mudgripz disagreed with my post, but did it in a direct and totally non offensive way and offered me the opportunity to compare torches . If I am proven wrong and learn something I gain and that is what I believe most people are here for - to learn and gain from exchanging knowledge, not telling someone to FO.
Are you his bitch?
My 15 year old daughter was whacking rabbits out past 200 two nights ago up Gibbston Valley. But I spouse you'd expect that when her old mans a rabbiter.
Presumptuous dicks.
My son and I had been hunting hard trying to pick up a beast from late avo well into dark.It meant a cruel drag up the gorge and then an hour continually rising to the truck. It was thick near the lip of the gorge. We broke out and paused. Crash over to the left and up. No 2x or Xpro because they were at home. Woteva. Put the headlamp on full beam ,swung it up to the noise hissing at my son to get ready. Neon golfballs. Bang. Nothing. Bugger. Sure you hit it. Clamber up thru the scrub. OMG. Fatty. That was 9.45pm . 2 hours later collapsed at the Hilux absolutely r..ted. Beware the fruits of your Maxi head lamp.Quality gear.So reliable.
You shot that with a little HO1R??? Wow!!!
Leo - will send up a new LR headlamp to test and review too when it gets here soon..
