    Spotting scope mag for 1.5-2km

I have an opportunity to get a Maven 12-27x56 spotter pretty cheap. Would this be enough for spotting deer at 1.5-2km? Want to be able to pick out fallow among burnt manuka and punga and marsh.

How do you find the ATC to look through generally?

Did anyone else spend far too long looking for deer in those photos?
