    Steyr "tactical" scout? (heavy barrel)

A while ago I purchased a steyr scout from gun city on a father's day Sale, which dropped the rifles price down from 5k to 3.6k... so I purchased it without hesitation since i was after a quality bolt gun for an all rounder going from bush, through to 500-1000 meter steel targets.

I can't seem to find any information whatsoever about this rifle on the net, and it seems like it doesn't exist at all outside of gun city and some African safari site I can't find anymore. It's a regular scout with the enlarged bolt knob, 10 round mag attachment, 2x 10 shot mags, adjustable cheek riser and shoulder pad, and the most confusing part is the heavy stainless steel (factory threaded) barrel which isn't fluted like the rest of the scouts

After pulling some steyr information from the net I tried using 168 grain federal match (can't remember powders)(possibly fiochi primers) and was shooting groupings of around an inch at 300 meters in windy conditions, taking the vertical string out of the factor due to El cheepo scope rings on a sightron big Sky (2 or 3) which I couldn't tighten properly so every shot I fired the scope would move slightly. That into account after doing a fee grouping like that I found the accuracy to be amazing for a "lightweight scout", and i am no great shooter since it was my first time really using a big bore rifle down a range.

I can put up some images I have from Facebook, but after drowning my last phone I lost most of my others on it, and i am out of town on work so I don't have access to the rifle for model numbers etc.

CAN SOMEONE HELP IDENTIFY MY RIFLE

I've searched the website many times, and checked the booklet I was given but there is no info whatsoever on a heavy barrel steyr scout model

The only heavy barrel scouts I can find are the steyr scout elite, which shares all the same features of my rifle, aside from the bolt, picatinny rail, and longer barrel.

The elite has a different bolt assembly and has a full length picatinny rail compared to the weaver of the standard scout.

It's almost like I have a blinged up scout with a barrel change.

Any chance it has had a replacement barrel fitted? Any markings on the barrel? Have you tried emailing Steyr with the serial number?

Made a phone call to gun city, and this time they were a little more giving for information.

Apparently they buy them from Europe already kitted out like they are, and he said you can find them like that on the Internet... yet I've spent hours upon hours searching with no luck. (He also couldn't tell me anything about the barrel)

Watch the movie 'Beyond the Reach'.
Michael Douglas uses one in .308 as his hunting rifle with stainless barrel...
His 6x6 Mercedes truck is pretty cool.
