You are well within your rights to destroy it yourself. Give it to @gundoc or other qualified gunsmith to turn into a certified non-firearm.
Paradoxically, in some way you may then have even more joy out of it as you can enjoy it on your wall over the fireplace every day from now.

I would seriously consider deactivating them if we were legally aloud to but we are not. No legislation or guides to be followed. Then I could hang them in the lounge. Mrs would love it!!!!
