    Sun Strike

Anyone got any good ideas on how to battle sunstrike on the scope?.............got a bad dose yesterday and missed out on a couple of deer because of it.
On a more positive note said deer havnt been overly worked up and stressed out and hopefully should be able to do another recce in a few weeks.

Put a sun shade on your scope?

they are just a bit of metal or plastic that slides (or screws into) over the front of the scope - no change in point of aim

Ask at your local gun shop. Top end brands like Leupold etc manufacture sun shades to fit their scopes but I am sure that there are also others that produce a generic sun shade .

That is one thing I do want to invest in when I get a new rifle is a sunshade for the scope nothing worse than going to the range early in the morning to check sighting before getting to where you are going to hunt for a few days and be hit by sun strike especially while hunting.Matt ya should have left the .223 at home and taken the eargensplitten loudenboomer with you.

I have seen a picture of the british snipers in Afganistan and they had a honey comb style sunshade which I imagine is quite effective. Not sure how deep they are.

It's called an ARD, anti-reflection-device, designed to stop your objective reflecting light and revealing your position.

Oh, but then it does that by keeping the sun off of the lens so it should work well for sunstrike too, I think.

Yep, it should. My ACOG came with one on it, but it was dented and covered in Afghani mud so I haven't even bothered to put it on the optic and look through it.
