    Super bush pig

Hey guys - talk me out of it.
Been looking at super bush pigs - magnums that are 18-20” barrels.
l see this topic on here occasionally but always around reload only cartridges- (284 & 7saum)

Has anyone here actually done one with factory ammo and rifles -ie a 7mm REM mag, 300winmag - 300wsm and can tell me what it’s like? I have a short 16” barrel 308 and a 22” barrel 270 which are both good at what they are but I’d like to only have to have one gun and really get good with it.

    Thoughts?

20” 7mm rem mag. Seen/loaded a good few now. Multiple mates with them. Work mint. 18” too short for a rem mag.

I have 7 - and wouldn’t mind selling 3 and replacing with something more all purpose - hence this post.

The ole 270 shooting a 140gr at 3100 does wonders to rabbits and possums.

Don't be scared off by going under 20", heres my latest

    270wsm, Sako 85, 18" barrel, 140 BT's doing 3050 fps with 68g of RL26 & shooting under .5"

I doubt you'll get speeds anywhere close to that with standard factory ammo, but then for a bush pig that's probably not a priority.

I’ve got pretty much the same setup. Have shot deer to 450 m with it and it works good.

bush pig, short barrel, then you have to go 35 cal and make a big hole,
reasearch 35 whelen loads easily good to 350 mtr in the whelen (3006 cartridge base), I use a 358 win based on the 308 and that a 300 mtr load.
the 35 whelen can throw a 200 gr bullet at 3000 fps for 4000 flb of energy.
(Hammer bullets list a 178gr at 3200 fps and 203gr at 3040 fps)

Yeah it's not super light @ just over 8.5lb by todays standards ( yes I know that sounds kinda stupid for a suppressed magnum capable of going to 650y with a Z5 ) but I'm midget not a big burly sheep farmer

It shoots surprisingly soft recoil wise for what it is, just need to go kill something instead of shooting trees, YAY WORK

I didn't set this up as a "bush stumpie" but could be very useful - capable as one

What's everyone else running to get SD thirsty ?

My tikka 300wsm has a 22” barrel but will be chopping to 20”. Atm the factory nosler 165bts are doing 3065fps. At 20” they will still be going close to 3000 if not over. Id say thats a super handy rig with factory ammo. And the recoil is fine with the 165s. Limbsaver and dpt job done.
