Yea a 20” 7mm or 300wsm maybe the go - have been looking into 18” 6.5PRC
They seem quite interesting and capable
Tikka strata 300wsm cut to 20 inches,dpt,vx5..178eldx pushed by RL17 2860fps![]()
I run a 18” 6.5SST- similar to a 6.5PRC but slightly shorter to suit a short action better. The key is to hand load for short barrels.
147gr ELDM @ 2800fps

300 saum, 20" Hardy, 168NBT 3100fps (R17). Stug stock. Tiny groups. Light. The best big gun Ive had. Son @craigc has got it now - early inheritance.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

Am following this thread eagerly.
Thinking about doing a 300wsm superbush pig with a 18" barrel, dpt can with break baffle. Realistic velocity for 195gr TMK? Just as something for a compact tops gun.
Keep it simple- hand me a model 7 7mm08 and I'll be right
I don’t reload so factory options only - not super keen on buying rifles and swapping barrels either. I think I’ve settled on a 6.5prc cut down to 18/19/20” somewhere there. So cleaning out safe to make room.
I was thinking about similar and moving on my 7mm rem,
However done some digging and found that the 6.5prc isn't a race horse with the factory hornady ammo.
This was followed up by ironically a week ago I was watching an Instagram story (disappeared now so I can't see the exact figures). Was a 20inch cut tikka, new. Precision match hornady over a chrono. It was horrendously slow, i think it was 2400fps or something for a 147eldm (don't quote me).
Something to do your research on and I would hate for you to be disappointed if it wasn't what you were expecting (this guy was from his comments and surprised manner)
