as others have said you'll lose a little performance the smaller the cal the worse it will be ie a 223 trough a 30 cal (308 suppressor) will be worse than a 6.5 trough a 30cal suppressor having said that a 30cal should be fine on all 3 as far as being able to shoot without muffs goes

I thought suppressors were more rated "up to" a certain calibre rather than calibre specific?

For example my Hardy IV on my 308 I thought was just centerfire rated and one of the calibres included in the specs was 308. As far as I know it isn't a specific "308 suppressor". Am I wrong?

They do have different sized holes as well that cover ranges of calibres, but generally they are the same. As far as the 308 suppressor on a 223 it should be about as good as a 223 suppressor because although the hole is bigger, you'll likely find the whole thing bigger. I know the Gunworks ones are like that. I used the same one on my 308 and 243 till I bought a couple or three more.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

    Hi,

Quite a few variables involved, which effect whether the larger cal suppressor will be louder or not ( calibre, barrel length, suppressor size / type etc .)

However, with a well suppressing suppressor overall, the difference will be somewhat minimal.

As an example, our jet-Z COMPACT .25 calibre suppressor will have c. 29-32 dB of net sound suppression on a 6.5x55 rifle, if a .30 cal COMPACT is used, the net sound suppression is typically c. 27-28 dB

    Best Regards!

That sounds the wrong way around to me @Smiddy.
Surely 223 hole will be too small for 308???

Recipe for disaster I have put my 243 DPT on my AR223 just to try it out worked fine and did notice a lot more gas in the face and the rounds ejected further away due to the bolt speed increased.

Volume of the suppressor is more critical then a slightly larger muzzle hole. I have about a 8mm muzzle hole my 22 and its quieter then a crickets fart.
