Which suppressor? DPT or Hardy?

I can get them at the same price. DPT has a good customer service reputation (I've experienced this personally), and Hardy less so (if internet opinions are to be believed). It's an off-the-shelf purchase for an off-the-shelf rifle, nothing complicated. Over-barrel in both cases.

DPT
- Weight 260g
- Length 205mm (105mm forward)

Hardy Gen6
- Weight 290g
- Length 200mm (80mm forward)

Look very similar, with the Hardy just edging ahead in terms of performance and length, but slightly heavier.

Thoughts please?

I have never had direct dealings with DPT, but from the feedback from people who have, I have heard good things, but I have had a poor customer experience with Hardys and have heard similar things. If I was offered a choice between the two I would have to say DPT every time. The Hardy's suppressor I have leaves soot around the barrel after firing. We know the gap is swarf in the thread where the inner sleeve connects to the central thread at the muzzle fitting. But Hardys insist that the suppressor is not at fault. I have checked several times and can confirm without doubt tha there are no holes in the barrel and that the only way for soot and gas to get to the barrel are through the gaps in the suppressor.

I do not mind when manufacturers have to remedy a fault. Faults happen, its a fact of life. It is far more important to me how a company deals with a fault when it happens and the service experience from Hardys left me in no illusion that I would never buy another.

Customer service is everything in my industry. I have to know that the service or parts that I supply to a client, the vendor and I will stand behind them. I agree with you about what you read on the net, it can be taken out of context and not always 100% true.

I have to say DPT. If you add another baffle to the dpt, it will be just as good as the Hardy and still be lighter but at the expense of overall length. I have seen, owned and used both brands, the DPT is the more flexible of the 2 being able to be maintained or added to if required.

Im not completely writing the hardy off here, its a..... ok..... product and if overall length is key and you can handle questionable after sale support go for the Hardy.

My 5 cents worth....

DPT....it works....great service....easy to strip & clean....easy to buy more baffles....option of stainless baffle for high fire rate.....DPT

Compared to the $350 for DPT it is 50 / 50 depending on your preference for weight / length. But Hardys look to be closer to $600 and to be brutal, for that I would get a DPT AND a Gunworks......

I've owned Hardy's gen 4 magnum, MAE and ASE.

But shot alongside those that are confirmed DPT people.

Hardy - I just think they don't take the time to look after the customers having had Crap left in the barrel, action after a threading and a 'rebore' of the Gen 4 after it gas jetted and consistently left carbon dag's on the baffles that even with submersion and bronze brush cleans refused to get back to a clean regular baffle.

No such issues with the DPT maintenace is dead easy... whereas the Hardy I think is more aimed at the use and throwaway crowd.

You can add extra stainless baffles to the dpt or replace as required - try doing that to a hardy!

I think you know my answer - now to find a second hand one in a M14 for $200 that's my challenge!! To replace guess what - A Hardy!

The stuff you hear/read on the internet about customer service or more appropriately lack of it from Hardy's isn't just internet hearsay, its a real thing, you don't have to ,look far to find it.

On top of all that Darren is a decent Bloke that will always stand behind his product

Dpt had a hardy was not a good experience

+Dpt (have 2). Darren and Nickolas(@Friwi) are great to deal with.

I have a dpt. I like it. Haven't shot anything else though.

Owned both. But I'll say DPT.

Dude DPT is where it’s at. Awesome design. Only a single hole to put a small piece of tape over and after a wet hunt unscrew it into two halves to air and dry out.

Open it every now and again to check it’s condition.

Awesome guys to deal with.

I have 3 DPT's all came via Terminator Products including a slightly modified 35cal one as it needed a bigger hole :D (no fault of the suppressor just my barrel had a bigger hole than 35cal)
Would buy another DPT tomorrow if I needed one

DPT fan here. All my hunting rifles wear one and the customer service is 2nd to none.

Crikey the boy from Tokoroa will love this pr. LOL. The only thing DPT has going for it is quality and reliability.

I love my dpt i also have an mae smaller but quite a bit heavyer than the dpt i have a couple of mates who have hardys and they are good aswell
Sweet fa difference between them suppresson wise you can only suppress a said rifle so much
So you need to go for the one that fits the bill for you
There are pros and cons to all of them for example mae compact but heavy
Dpt light but bulky fatness wise

Everything is a trade off just go for the one that suits your shooting style best

I prefer light waight and a slightly more bulky suppressor doesn’t bother me which is why If I brought another tomorrow id go dpt all day long

Everyone says DPTs customer service is all about Darren, what about that tall bloke with the funny accent that always greets you when you walk in, he’s not too bad ;) :thumbsup:

If its DPT you need the SS first baffle, I had one on a 17 hornet and it munched the first baffle after about 400 Rounds? Maybe I expected to much? but Happy uses DPT all the time with the SS baffle and talking to him I think he in love with either Darren or Friwi, not really sure.
DPT are good guys to deal with.
Currently I have a Hardy on my 6.5, MAE on my 17HMR and Shultz and Larsen on my 204 and 223. The rest just hurt my ears!

Well I'm happy with my Hardy.
The shorter length is worth something to me. That's an extra 1" of Barrel I can keep. Shorter overhang has also got to be stronger when you bash it in the bush.
They have responded to all my emails and questions. I have brought 2 already and will be getting another shortly. Have not had any problems with mine to be fair. Gen 5 and Gen 5 Stealth.
I think that the talk of the DPT having an advantage in that you can strip it and clean them is somewhat of a red herring as the Hardy core is machined from a solid piece of metal so is inherently
more resistant to start with than a series of baffles.
Also should point out that I suspect that Hardy are more focused on their dealer sales that 1 off cash customers, And that's a sensible business decision, deal with 1 man and make 1 sale or make 20 sales at a lower margin. Volume brings down manufacturing costs.

That's interesting Maca. It's for a hunting rifle, so after initial setup, I won't get through that many rounds. Go for the SS baffle?

Yep first baffle SS, check with Happy, I think that is what he does, and he puts a lot of rounds through them.

I have both.

Note the Hardy is an older Gen 4, on a .308. No issues with what so ever, but the continued costumer services thing is a concern, and I have heard a number of catastrophic failures with Hardys. Main gripe with my Hardy is that it has to have a number of holes taped at the end, and I'm not sure if that is a good thing.

My DPT is brand new, I've put 30-40 round through it (.223) and I can already see wear in the first baffle. However it can be replaced, and who knows what's going on in other brands as you can't easily look inside. Get the SS baffle if you do get one. I know of one that blew up but was on a semi-auto used be a professional goat culler.

If and when I replace the Hardy, it will probably be with a DPT.

Also, consider the Gunworks 35mm for value for money. Especially at the moment with the special price.

+1 on this cleaning suppressors seems some sort of fad around here.
I once saw a hardy can on a 223 was used for culling from a chopper had over 20 thousand rounds through it was slightly heavier than a new one but still didn't need cleaning that must say something.
Yup I've had a hardy rem mag can let go on me was fixed up no questions.
Dpt may have better customer service but that's all.

There is a spray available called silensave from Napier of London. About $10 ish spray it in each end and coats the inside from corrosion. While hardy can be an a hole and have waited 4 months for one of his rifles to be repaired, I’ve had no issues with the 3 cans I have. I have a stealth gen 5 which is real quiet but long. An gen 5 short one have used a lot I like the shortness and is quiet. It’s pretty similar to the asesl5 which is the only can I use now as the hardy doesn’t fit on the 16” 308. All the cans on the long rifles were replaced wit t3 brakes. Have shot a few peoples rifles that I fitted with dpt. All good too. My favorite is the ase though. For ar15 I have a sonic 35 using only 2 baffles. 2” longer than muzzle. It has had shit loads 1000’s rounds and got hot plenty and looks perfect inside. Weighs 200gr with 2 baffles. Not the quietest like that but fine without ear plugs. Great when walking around the hill.

Not listed but of course I would recommend our suppressors as well :)

You bet - i'll second that

While porky, ASE cans are superb.

I have a DPT that has been thrashed on a 16" .308, a .270, a 6.5 Grendel AR and now lives on my 6.5CM. I have always been happy with the sound reduction and feel the erosion in the baffles is very reasonable for the life it has had.

If you have money, buy an ODL and don't look back. Certified fanboy here.
