Thread: Suppressors

Hi I'm getting back into hunting and getting stuff together, when it comes to suppressors there seams a huge range in price.
I'm am all for the 'you get what you pay for', are the hardy's worth the coin.
Opinions much appreciated. cheers

I rate hardys, and Greystone. I like Greystone 6k for quietness

IMO your better off saving a couple hundred and get a dpt or similar and spending extra on scope if you haven’t already got sorted.

Here is a list of suppressors I have used.

DPT: Quiet, light, fat, can be disassembled.
MAE and Waitaki: Quiet, absorbs more recoil, very heavy, probably will outlast other brands.
Gunworks 35: Slim, very long, quiet, absorbs recoil.
Hardy Gen 4: Noisiest of all, most expensive of all, fairly compact
Sonic 40: Quiet, slim, fairly light, absorbs recoil, can be disassembled. Cheapest of all.

I have to say my favourite overall is the Sonic 40. It does have these little grooves on the baffles that will trap dirt, but ok once you put a neoprene cover over it.

north island...DPT
South island...Gunworks....one of the many sizes will suit your needs.

others may be fly shit smaller,lighter,quieter MAYBE....but these two have been in game for some time and both are great folks to deal with.

I have Waitaki's on my rifles. They are very quiet, but it's like having a VW beetle attached tobthe front of the rifle.

If I have to start over again, Gunworks would be my first and last stop!!

I sell and fit a great many Danish, Stealth and Sonic suppressors. I have had nothing but great feedback from customers in terms of performance and price

Whilst they are of the segmented design they have two key important features, that being a built in stainless steel muzzle break (with helical venting to keep screwed up tight). The other significant feature is that each segment has a small stainless steel liner around the bore.

This offers significantly better wear resistance to just anodised aluminium.

I really like my Dpt and think they are great value so much so that I have at least 5 of them
There are other great ones but I still show a preference to dpts and use the heck out of the ability to swap baffles which often means when I get a new rifle I can assemble a suppressor from what I have on hand

I've had a few different ones, my main one now is an A-Tec Optima

There's an A-Tec for sale on here at the moment that would be an awesome buy is you have a larger chambering.

Great info guys, I've purchased an older sako 7-08 m951 22" that came with a very long suppressor and threaded at 9/16 [14.2mm].
Wasn't the for me, moa was fine but way too long and cumbersome, so im getting it re threaded at 18" to 14mm.
The local shop is thrashing the hardy but its good to know other options.

One of the fancy AR specific ones.

Against a mates DPT on his 16" and my Hardy with its 20" barrel.

The Hardy was not what I'd call hearing safe and the DPT dorked on it for a fraction of the cost.

A tech are superbly made and very nice.
ASE are mint also and would out do the aluminum ones for obvious reasons.

If you wanted the best for weight and noise reduction.

Hands down Oceania defense. 3d printed titanium suppressors. I had mates who had them on AR's and now a few who do a fair bit of Tops. They really rate the light weight and how effective they are. Plus they have a ratchet lock system which you will never bump. If I had the coin I'd grab one for all 3 rifles myself.

I would not touch anther Hardys again. As mentioned before DPT or Gunworks. I will be getting one to replace the Hardys I have as they wont fix it (even though I explained it was 2nd hand and I did not expect it to be done as a warranty job- ) I get soot on the outside of my barrel after every use even if only one shot is fired.... I understand sometimes things are not perfect- but it is how a person deals with defect and mistakes that is important to me and when I spoke to them he flat out told me that his suppressors wont do that....Well I can tell you its not the barrel doing it.....As a matter of fact, I had someone else wh is familiar with these things take a look at it and there is visible swarf in the join where the barrel sleeve threads into the muzzle fitting on the suppressor.....Probably a simple fix that has cost him a customer

This happened to my son's brand new Hardy they did repair it as it is where the isolation tube is attached towards the front of the thread.

My Gunworks suppressor was made in 1997. Still works absolutely fine. A bit heavier than most, but a bit quieter than most, as lightness and shortness became a bit of a fad post 2010.

I was disappointed in how loud my DPT was, despite buying 2 extra baffles for it. I think my Gunworks spoilt me
